No, We Don't Have Proof Of Life On Mars

Earlier this week, the Mars Curiosity rover announced it found methane on Mars. Does this mean we're closer to finding life on another planet?

Read More:
Curiosity Detects Mysterious Methane Spikes on Mars
"A gas strongly associated with life on Earth has been detected again in the Martian atmosphere, opening a new chapter in a decade-old mystery about the on-again, off-again appearance of methane on Mars."

What Will Curiosity Come Up With Next?
"NASA's Mars rover Curiosity's discovery of organic compounds in the ground and plumes of methane in the air opens two potentially related investigations into whether or not the planet most like Earth in the solar system also hosted life."

Wait, There's More: Curiosity Confirms Organics on Mars
"NASA's rover Curiosity has found organic compounds on Mars, the first definitive proof of materials on the Red Planet that, on Earth, are building blocks for life."

On Earth when you get excited about releasing methane, the other people in the elevator rarely share your enthusiasm.

DNews obviously haven't been reading the comments.

Amy tells us there's no cattle farms on Mars, yet Amy is also the daughter of Leo and Inez, owners of Mars... I smell a cover-up. And it smells of poop. Cow poop.

As read on NASA's 2017 budget demands: "Searching for Organics on Mars: GSFC scientists demonstrated that cosmic rays can effectively degrade
amino and carbolic acids in the top 1 meter of Martian rocks or regolith within 100 million years. This
result will affect where we can search for past life on Mars, as cosmic rays will degrade exposed surfaces.

Yes there is proof of life, past and present, on Mars in the images from the Spirit, Opportunity and Curiosity Rovers. It's truly disappointing that the Discovery Channel is no longer about discovering anything, but rather has become another mouthpiece for NASA.  I encourage everyone to look at the rover images for themselves.  They are spectacular and eye opening.

The difference in numbers makes me wonder how well the martian numbers line up with the amount of geo produced methane on earth.

That should be Belch it out. Not fart it out. Methanate bacteria is present predominantly in the first two stomachs of the cow's four stomach system. Only a small percentage of cow methane production is from the rear.

Here's something to stroke your chin about. The 1976 landers (Viking) were both set up to do 3 soil tests for life. Two of the 3 tests emitted CO2 when treated with sugar (1 of the 2 with radioactive C14). So far, so good as far as detecting life. The 3rd test failed on both landers. It was the detection (mass spectrometer/gas chromatograph) of Carbon itself from the soil. So, the conclusion was there was no life. Period. End of discussion, forever and ever, amen! Curious isn't it? One test with mid-seventies technology, never before tried off Earth, and that settles it for all time? Not one follow-up test with more modern equipment in the next 40 years? Why not? After all, they were just trying to see if Carbon existed in the Martian regolith, at all! Seems like some people are desperate to avoid any possibility of the burden of proof being turned back to them having to prove that Life doesn't exist on Mars.

There's evidence of potential life on mars that eventually died out when the magnetic field of mars ceased to exist. We've found deltas, river formations and other water-related structures. Where there's water, very likely there's life.

Chuck Norris once went to mars. Thats why there are no signs of life.

Just putting this out here because I can't help myself, but you have some of the most prettiest eyes...they look like two beaming, shiny black pearls that just do an astounding job at reflecting light. The brightness of those eyes are only bested by your intellect. I could listen to you enlighten me about ecology and other forms of science as long as I could gaze back at those eyes!

Can't blame a man for noticing.

7 parts per billion is small enough to be explained by sensor malfunctions. It's not much of a lead to follow.

we can go another million years without worrying about life on mars or anywhere else. Let's take care of the life we know of first.

There is more methane in a cows belch than in a cows fart.
