It's actually great that older Hip-Hop legends like Wayne, Jay & Dre were the ones to start the careers of the next big 3 who dominated Rap after them

In J. Cole’s defense an artist should almost always own their masters.

Jay brought Cole out on tour for Blueprint 3, featured him on the album too. That experience of seeing your OG command arenas is so valuable.

It feels like Cole name dropped Jay Z more than a couple times

Jay gave Cole his Roc chain huge moment if you ask me. Showed up at his 2014 Forest Hill tour, HUGE MOMENT

Coles best thing is signing to Jay Z when he was excutive and not a rapper

If you knew about Jay-Z, you'd know that he encourages his artists to own their own master just like Jay-Z owns his masters. It's the artists music and they should own it. That's not just business, that's Jay-Z looking out.

I'm curious to see who the big three will bring up in a similar way though. We're already seeing them as mentor figures like with Kendrick and Baby Keem or Cole with JID

Dr Dre seems to be mates with all the people he signed at Aftermath. Good mentor and a good person

Kendrick is the only that still has a close relationship with his OG

People are only calling them "The big 3" because Kendrick, Cole, and Drake were the 3 most consistent popular lyrical rappers in the 2010s but all 3 are vastly different and should not be grouped together.

I'm glad that Cole owns the Masters now I don't know why he didn't before

I'm pretty sure cole mentioned he didn't want to rap with his heroes or smth like that. And while he took jay as a mentor he did keep himself distant maybe because of how jays label was handling coles initial albums by not releasing them and all that until cole leaked friday night lights. I'm sure the first chance he got to be his own boss he took it and kept jay at a distance to not influence his career down the road and still have respect for him.

This is why Cole is the goat of the 3! He said from the beginning Jay Z was trying to hold him back and Mr Nice watch is the only song I can think of with the two together.

The didference is Hov didn't want to make the same mistakes he made with Bleek, with Cole. So he let him do his thing
