I was thinking of doing this exact same thing for my lawn, but decided it was probably too big to setup via a hose spigot. I’m glad to see someone else posted a video on how this can be done! This would be perfect for someone with a smaller yard (4, 000 sq ft or less) and didn’t want to spend the money for a full blown in ground system. Thanks for the video!

I did not think I could do this kind of work until I saw this video. Awesome! Thank you for this knowledge.

Hi, I have been thinking of doing a sprinkler system in my front yard. The property is very small but because my neighbors driveway always got wet and his car as well because the swing arm was hard to adjust and the whirly one was insane so I have been looking to do something to fix the problem. I have most of the layout done on paper. I watched your You Tube and made a list of the materials. I will use 6 heads, 24 swing and a few Ts and elbows . I don't have to worry about if there is enough pressure as its so small of an area. Thank you for sharing this and I appreciate it!

Why trenching the grass? When you could buried the tubing under the mulch then T to each sprinkler head and also avoid damage to tubing in case you aerate.

Irrigation equipment is cheap. Trenching the lines is what’s the pain in the ass... hence why I have buffalograss in the backyard.

You made it look easy.

Good job. I'm exploring ways to install a system into my yard. I may add a flow meter or something that I can use to verify that there are no leaky connection throughout the life of the system.

Your main line should be bigger than the pipes going to the heads. Most systems use 1" main piping, then reduce down from there. At 3gpm putting sprinkler heads can't do there job without resizing the nozzles. Most homes have 30 to 40 psi. The GPM is determined by a stop watch and a gallon container. Turn water on and time how long it takes to fill a 1 gallon container. Then look up the data.

Would’ve preferred explanation as opposed to music but decent video. What tool did you use to cut the trench? Turned out nice

Great video! Have you tried putting 3 sprinklers on the 1/2 irrigation tube? I believe 2 sprinklers on the 1/2 irrigation tube is just about maxing out the flow rate of the tube. Also, I believe there is an adapter you can by so that you can run the irrigation tube right up to the faucet eliminating the need to use a hose?

I’m looking to do at least 3 of these setups for my yard. All together between 10, 000-15, 000 square feet. 2 questions. How far away from your water faucet did your nearest and furthest sprinkler heads go? And I might have missed it in the video, but how many heads did you run? I’m about to order the case of 20, 5000 series rotator heads by rainbird. More than I need but I’ll have extras. I was thinking maybe running 3/4” flex pipe for better flow.

I got an estimate for having professionals do mine. They were talking anywhere from $8, 000 to $12, 000. hell no. That case of 20 heads is only $180 on Amazon 🤣

Are you using a zone controller or are you directly connected to an outside faucet valve?

How well did this hold up over the summer? I’m thinking of going something similar in sections of my lawn.

When trenching, did you just wedge the grass and dirt apart or did you excavate the trench and replace the grass afterward? Also what type of soil do you have? I have clay unfortunately, so no matter what it’s going to be a pain!
