We have heavy red clay soil here in the SE and after several days of heavy rain, I get a water backup in my sewer lines. It's February now and since late November, it's rained probably 70% of the days and sometimes for several days at a time. It rained for 12 hours straight yesterday and today and it started again a few minutes ago. The ground is super saturated and my septic system can not handle any more water and cannot drain due to the saturated soil. I always know there's an issue because I'll be laying in bed and the shower drain will start gurgling. Usually because my kids are taking 45 minute showers and my wife is washing clothing and has the dishwasher running. This usually only happens every 3-4 years but the last 6 months have been so wet that it happens after almost every prolonged episodes of rain.

It's not just me either. It's everyone around here who has a septic system. Even my In-laws who have a fancy system have been having a really hard time with theirs.

What does this even mean? Too much water is getting in the tank? Where is the pump motor? I have two tanks and one is overflowing. I lifted the lid but i only see water and a cement crossmember thing. Thanks.

Have same issue when it rains heavy. Will putting in some French drains to divert water away from field lines help??

We just had a heavy all night downpour. I can't even flush anything. It's been half a day. My drain field is north of my tank. So for me it's definitely a landscape issue, unless they put my drain field below my tank. Idk. Crappy design.
