About Happy/Unhappy endings: I agree with and I’ll go further to say that I LOVE a bittersweet ending. Everything is great, you defeated the bbeg but you lost everything, or maybe you lost the battle but you saved a bunch more from impending doom. That definitely hits harder for me.

A good ending, happy or unhappy, has to be fitting. I was thinking of the ending of His Dark Materials. Lyra and Will have to be separated permanently, which is very sad, but it fits the story.

i don’t love unhappy endings but they won’t ruin a book for me if they make sense and are maybe complex.
like, if they leave me with interesting things to think about.
a cheap weepy, i do not like.
