Great explanation and easy to understand. I had a cedar roof and replaced with an asphalt one. Cedar requires costly maintenance every couple years, after 20 plus years it will cost you about the same price as getting a new asphalt roof.

Great video to explain cost! I just did my roof. I would estimate it at a 14/12 pitch. Terrible job... 3 stories high, 5 peaks, pigeon walks, and it needed 4 lays torn off (cedar shakes and 3 layers of shingles). What a mess but happy it is done.

i am replacing my roof right now. I am out 2000$ right now. I have a friend doing it and I have bought all the materials and permit. Which is the 2000$ i have spent. I am thinking another 2-3000 for labor and I am done. We will see how it turns out.

I have a 2600 sqft. house and got quoted $55, 000 for a new asphalt shingle roof. I currently have concrete tile.
After the roofer lit his cigar with a $100 bill and drove away, I chose to replace the underlayment myself, in stages. It turned out to be a pretty simple job. Lift off the perfectly good tiles, replace the underlayment AND add water and ice shield, put tiles back. Absolutely NO roofer wanted to do this. So whatever costs they give you on youtube, DOUBLE it.

As soon as he said "overlay" (meaning just adding a 2nd layer of shingles) - I checked out.... That is absolutely the worse advise you could ever take when replacing your roof. DO NOT just add a 2nd layer of shingles on top of the old ones... EVER!

Installing another roof over existing roof is beyond wrong total weight is like putting not one but two Cadillacs on your roof which caused structural damage over a period of time in most states insurance and city codes will not allow in short it is a hack move and only scammers roofers would do it to make major profits of your claim. Giving such advice is unprofessional at best. You have dump fees tear of no fun trust me installing first time doers experiment somewhere else. Let the professionals do it and depending on the pitch it is very dangerous trust been roofing fifteen years straight. Cost wise headache wise safety wise shop around your local companies may save you a broken leg as you slide off your roof
