I'm a live sound guy, and certainly no expert on film sound. But, that video you were reacting to was so obviously a total train wreck. I couldn't find any good advice in it at all. Although the bad advice with the lavalier mic did remind me that I have had good success using a high quality (not inexpensive) highly respected brand cardiod pattern condenser choir mic when I needed a particularly small mic to pick up sounds at a distance. Ps. Even Neewer has heard of a pop filter, but the channel in the video obviously has not.

I absolutely adored this video! All your content is great and very helpful! I don't usually comment on videos very much, but I wanted to let you know I get so much enjoyment out of these reaction videos.

Can't blame Saramonic wanting more sales, can't blame Cinecom for wanting sponsors and views. After all, it's business. Just that doing so by teaching dubious, if not wrong techniques is morally questionable, and very likely leading aspiring filmmakers and sound enthusiasts astray. Yet this sorry state of affairs will be unlikely to end anytime, and anyone who try to call out the BS will be disliked by the players, but loved by the people.

Love your commentary! These “cardboard cutout tips” videos always drive me up the wall. So much more nuance to be had and half the time they’re just wrong… Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

You should totally do this with a heart-rate monitor attached and the readout presented on screen. I'm guessing you needed a stiff drink after reviewing this.

Love these videos! I've been a Cinecom subscriber for years. Their message to you was petty. You're the audio pro. They tried their best to give guidance to their subscribers but if they get stuff wrong ((like they did), they should not kick off when a pro calls them on that bad guidance.

This is more entertaining than 95% of the shows coming out on streaming. I am actually learning a lot while I grim from ear to ear watching you rage. I love it.

Oh yes T power I remember reading about that, a bit of a weird standard. I think that could deserve a nice calming video maybe? With a cup of chamomile tea after this.

Not to mention the poor positioning of the C-stand legs and lack of sand bags... I hadn't heard of these guys before but I'm only at 7:32 and this is just too painful to continue.

I Like a bit of roomtone. Negates the need for stitching it together (which amateurs will do badly), or resorting to ambiance match plugins (that amateurs won't have) and that aren't always amazing. More useful in budget productions and though you wouldn't lay it over everything, it's great for filling holes, or patching noise etc. If you've had to resort to lav mics for a line it's another easy match in. Ambience match is not a "cheap" investment and if you are putting together Shorts, web series etc actual roomtone is just easy and fast. On big set it'll be on the wrong side of time and money.

They're not "plosives", they're "plop sounds".

Positives they got the C stand knuckle the right way.
18:20 I think they were just playing the audio from the lower Mic in that clip to demonstrate how it was picking up the Voice badly although that was not distinguished clearly.

I derive a strange sense of pleasure from watching Allan die inside more and more with each "tip" as well as spelling his name wrong :3
(that's a joke, just like the source of this video)
