Tolkien was sketching world of warcraft characters? Man was truly ahead of his time 😂

“Everything else just happens in a random forest, or a 3d set, or a green screen set”

Dan needs to be tied to a chair and forced to rewatch the Battle of Helms Deep clockwork orange style so he can properly remember the movies

Dropping this was crazy man, like, opinions dont 'have' to be shared publically. Shitting on one of the best movie trilogies in the history of cinema loved immensely both by tolkien fans and people who never read the books alike wasnt exactly something you needed to do to yourself xD

As someone who read the books, Im happy they did the movies the way they did. The casting if characters like Gandalf was amazing in my opinion, and he was much more likeable as Ian compared to the animated. As for the orcs Im honestly glad they chose to make them resemble the goblins more since they share a heritage if I remember correctly. The uruks look closer to the original idea of orcs, but theyre a species bred for war, if they looked the same as orcs then uruks would look useless. Why spend all that time breeding for war when your starting species was already peak physique? Now with the goblinesque look they look feral and dangerous, yet the uruks look like real soldiers, exactly how the difference should be. Orcs are larger in number, less predictable and more feral/primal, uruks are more strategic, strong and tough.

As for scenery, many of them were amazing and on point. Minas tirith and helms deep were also nailed. Rivendell too. Many of the places look like the sketches and drawings made based on the books or from Tolkien himself. But scenery isnt just that, but landscape too, and much of it just fits extremely well. It really isnt all that different to the books in terms of how scenery was described and I'm honest not sure what you mean with 'random forest', its not like Fangorn was described as anything other than an overgrown forest filled with massive thick moss covered trees and roots covering the entire ground, which is how the movie portrayed it. They didnt enter mirkwood in the trilogy which is the only other forest that has a very distinct look differing from 'a random forest'

Dan has tons of awful takes but this might be his worst one yet...
