Stranger Things Cast David Harbour Discusses Similarities With His Character!

Stranger Things star David Harbour has opened up about playing Jim Hopper in the Netflix series, admitting there are some pretty significant similarities between him and his character. The actor opened up to The Guardian about some of his struggles, including alcoholism (which Hopper deals with in Stranger Things) and Bipolar disorder, with the former getting so severe, he contemplated taking his own life. He admitted it was his kitten that stopped him going through with it at the time. "What stopped me was going: 'I love this cat! Who will take care of this cat?'" he said. "Also I was horrified by the idea of dying in my apartment, not being discovered for a week and having a cat eat me."The actor, who will also be starring as Red Guardian in Marvel's Black Widow, said he felt getting his big break with Stranger Things came at the right time in his life, allowing him to truthfully portray the characters he was given.

Meanwhile, good news for you Stranger Things fans, who may or may not have forgotten that this show, you know, exists (the last season debuted nearly two years ago!). Though pandemic-induced production woes have left the show's expectant audience in limbo, there may finally be light at the end of the tunnel. As of late, both the cast and the writers' room members have been hinting at a more concrete release timeline than we've seen in years. To begin Season Four with the Byers family and Eleven living outside of Hawkins, with Eleven still missing her powers, and Hopper in Russia makes for a much more interesting premise than the sameness we saw in Season Three. With the "American" serving as one of the big cliffhangers—we now know this is Hopper, of course—a possible outline for a fourth season begins to take shape. Eleven must figure out how to get her powers back to stop whatever meddling the Russians are still doing with the Upside Down. The gang must reunite to save Hopper from whatever fate befell him at the hands of the Russians. And possibly they even team up with Dr. Brenner, who has the answer to it all. Stay tuned for more.
