What you need to know about Sickle Cell Disease

Sickle Cell Disease is the most commonly inherited blood disorder in the United States. Cases are highest among African Americans impacting one in 365 births. (Feb. 10, 2023)

One thing I wasn’t aware of is that an African American or SubSaharan person needs blood from another SubSaharan or African race person.
I thought blood was blood but apparently a person’s body with
sickle cell anemia can reject the blood from a person of another race.

Apparently, sickle cell is a very damaging and painful disease. I did learn that a person who has this will not get malaria. That’s not a problem here, but would have been a beneficial trait to have where malaria is prevalent.
