I'm 72. Never had to go to war. Never not had a roof over my head. Never gone hungry. Very happy to be Canadian.

We live in the falls. Canada day celebrations are pretty big here, including a parade. And if you want to fight the traffic of tourists and find scarce parking that isn't 30 dollars, you can go see the fireworks which they pretty much have all the time anyway. It's just a longer display on certain holidays like Canada and Victoria day.

For anyone visiting Niagara falls here's a hint:
We usually park wayyy up the lane in the no frills parking lot to park and walk. None of the businesses in the plaza are open at night. And eat somewhere else other than on the hill or around it, things r twice the $$
BTW walking UP the hill is horrendous. It's very steep and packed with tourists. Many times we go celebrate in Welland on the canal instead. Fireworks there r definitely shorter though but the general feel is different because we're celebrating with actual other Canadians, not tourists.

I live in a cruise ship port (Victoria, BC, where the American cruise ships to Alaska stop) and American tourists who come here on July 1st are always flabbergasted at how patriotic we are. We wear red and white that day, have flags on our faces, and sing the anthem at the drop of a hat. We're fiercely patriotic. We're just quiet about it the other 364 days of the year, unlike our neighbours.

As a Newfoundlander, Canada day hits a bit different. That was the battle of Beaumont Hamel where 801 Newfoundlander’s took part in the assault, only to have 68 answer roll call on July 2.

I lived in the USA for over a decade and many were surprised that we celebrated our country and wondered why it was so close to their July 4th. I was also asked if we had our own National Anthem and pledge of allegiance. This video is a spoof but rings true to so many Canadians who have suffered the ignorance of our neighbours to the South. 😂

Extremely proud Canuck here..first generation Canadian of Italian descent. I Personally feel like the luckiest person to be born here. When I see the *#it-show of what is going on in the world, especially with my USA neighbours, I never take for granted how lucky I am !Whenever I hear our anthem I shed a tear of gratitude…. Love from Montreal 🤙🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️❤️❤️

I will say I have always been so grateful to be able to spend Canada day on Parliament Hill! The fact that we can run and play on the grass in front of our house of Legislature makes me very proud and feel Freedom! We typically BBQ and spend the day/weekend outdoors!

I worked because I'm an essential worker. There tend to be parades, fireworks and different events going on in cities and towns on Canada day.

It’s a privilege to be Canadian & live in this country. I was lucky enough to have been born here but have a wealth of friends that are like me, or have heritage that they’ve always been here as well as new Canadians. We are a mixing pot and are better off because of it.

Proud Canadian. Love the small town parades and Canada Day festivities with games, and crafts and big Canada Day birthday cakes and lots of good summer foods.

My mom has been directly involved with immigrant families for quite a few decades now. It's been a tradition in our family to invite them over for a get together and celebrate their new home with them. We have a multicultural pot luck and try to help (as a group) with any questions or challenges they may be facing as no system is perfect.

One of the best things a person can do on Canada Day is attend a citizenship ceremony. Olympic medals are fine, but there aren't many things that can make one prouder of one's country than watching a room full of people from all over the world so happy, proud, and just *relieved* to become fellow citizens. Pretty moving.

Mert - Canadians tend to not toot our own horn, unlike our neighbours to the south, except for Canada Day, when we exclaim to each other, and the world, how blessed and proud we are to call Canada our home.
Lots of activities, in backyards, in Parks, on streets and at Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Singers, bands, dancers, stuff for the kiddos, BBQs, and of course, as soon as the sun goes down, fireworks. It’s a sea of red, white and maple Leafs, and big smiles.
HAPPY CANADA DAY WEEKEND, EVERYONE !

Ironically I broke my leg in Dec & with an ambulance, emergency surgery, 2 days stay in Hosp, two plates, nine screws, several xrays before & after & eight weeks of physio - my bill was $45

Living in Ottawa, I celebrate Canada Day by staying as FAR as possible to downtown. It's a zoo!!! but something everyone should experience once. (Done it three times & that's enough for my lifetime.) Likely having a BBQ & watching the fireworks. It's a National Holiday, so people get the day off paid but if they do they to work, it's time & 1/2 with another paid day off.
Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦

Big Day in Newfoundland and Labrador tomorrow. July 1st is Memorial Day in Newfoundland and we will interring our Unknown Soldier from WW1. Most Canadian's know nothing of our history and that July 1 is a solemn day for us. We do celebrate Canada Day in the evening. There will a special CBC broadcast tomorrow morning marking the return of a young man back from the battlefields of France to his home. He will be placed in Newfoundland's National War Memorial. We were a country and our history is important. He has been laying in State for 3 days and tomorrow there will not be a dry eye on the Island.

My experience as a child was picnic with 3 or 4 other families at a free access lake near where we lived. The last little bit of the road before we got there was uphill and when you went over the top of the hill you saw the whole bright blue lake spread out in front of you. We stayed from lunch to supper and usually went home very sleepy and sunburnt with lots of mosquito bites. Even the small strip of skin in the part of my hair soul be sunburnt. That was long before sunblock. As we got older celebrations changed. It was always more about family and friends than it was about patriotism and flag waving. The centennial year and the 150th anniversary were a bit different in that we went to a venue with entertainment at a part. Centennial year there were celebrations over the entire year. The 150th birthday was different because that’s the day our beautiful great granddaughter was born. Now instead of Canada Day we refer it as “her name” day so she thinks all the celebration is in her honour lol!

We go to a park where they have traditional dances, songs, and foods from all the cultures that make Canada great. The thank the soldiers for their sacrifice and service, for without them we would not have a Canadian identity. Then we watch fireworks as the sun sets. Our celebration is like most countries, then those countries bring their celebrations here and mixed together we get Canada Day. Simple really. HAPPY CANADA DAY.
