The new M2-series MacBook Pro and Mac mini models launched today, marking the debut of the first M2 Pro and ‌M2‌ Max chips. We have the ‌M2‌ Pro ‌Mac mini‌ on hand, and thought we'd take a look at the machine and do a series of benchmarks to see how it fits into Apple's lineup.

Edit ** M1 Max has a 32 Core GPU. The on screen specs were correct. Just accidentally said 16.

Coming from my dual core i5 MacBook Air, my m2 Mac mini with 16gb of ram that I ordered will feel like I’ve upgraded to a Lamborghini after driving a ford pinto.

Watch out for the 256GB and the 512GB models of the M2 Pro Mac Mini! I just got one, and the 512GB Mac Mini M2 Pro gets about 3, 000 MB/s read and write speeds. It is reported on Macrumors that the 256GB Mac Mini M2 models also get only 1, 500 MB/s SSD read and write speeds. You have to get the 1TB or larger SSD Mac Mini models to get the full 6, 000 MB/s SSD disk speeds!

I would love to get a mac mini because my 5k imacs internals are so obsolete but I have no idea what monitor to get as I feel like the studio display is the exact same as the 5k imac display

If you really think about in terms of thermal, the Mac Mini chassis can easily support a MAX chip. Apple can easily use the Mac Studio for a multi chip setup (have 2 ULTRA or more fused together) and as the base ULTRA as the base.

I’m still within my 14 day return window, do you think m2 with 24gb 512 ssd is better than the m2 pro with 16gb 512 ssd? Which would perform better? Thunderbolts ports aside. Thanks

Hey great video. I just got this machine after almost 10 years off of the Mac. I cannot believe how far the technology has come. I almost went with the Studio but videos like this helped me decide that the M2 Mac Mini is all I needed.

Why this thing doesn’t have a SD slot is beyond me…

Ok so I haven’t had anything but iphones and ipads in a LONG time but im interested in this. Couple questions
1) can I use my iPad pro as a monitor to make this portable? I own a solar company and have some bad ass portable power stations I carry regardless.
2) if I get the faster one can I run PC type games?
3) with my new Sony 65” tv work with this as a home monitor?
4) what keyboard/mouse are good value’s especially if it can be mobile?
5) can this do apple TV stuff as well?
6) can the new homepods work with this to be a soundbar replacement for TV/movies as well as computer work?

Back in 2012 instead of upgrading my 2007 iMac with another desktop platform or laptop I migrating to a iPad3 for e-mail, social media and 1080p video creation / editing in iMovie then in 2018 to an iPadPro3 12.9” with FilmicPro and Lumafusion. I continued to use my DSLR camera gear and the iMac to edit stills in ACR/Photoshop waiting for the mirrorless camera tech to mature to a prosumer quality price point I could live with. That point was reached with the Canon R6mkII at the same time the M2 mini and new Studio Monitor was announced.

I had the original Studio monitor on my 1984 “pizza box” 6100 and the transparent 17” CRT Studio Monitor on my 2000 Power PC so getting the new $1, 600 Studio Monitor is a temptation this Apple fanboy can’t resist given that there is no longer a 27” iMac, a rather clever move by Apple to sell the M1 and M2 Mini’s and Studio Monitor.

Since this will likely be the last desktop Mac I ever purchase I’m planning on getting the M2 Pro with at 512GB to avail of dual flash memory and faster disk performance and at least 16GB of RAM which should be sufficient for photo and basic photo editing I plan on doing in Photoshop / Final Cut but am unsure the ideal amount of GPU for those apps. Recommendation?

What do you think, Studio M1 Max or Mini M2 pro? Or wait for Studio M2 Max at all? I mount videos from FX3, a lot and often with graphics in AE

I have the M1 with 16gb of RAM, I just regret not picking the 512gb version, except for that it’s more than enough

HDMI port is different 2.1 not 2.0 which makes a difference to how many monitors and higher resolution

Main Concern is the Cooling system. It drops dramaticaly the performance on Macmini M2 Pro when stress, cuz its too small and tight for the amount of energy/warm it gets. On this case the Mac Studio is more apropriate. Is it right?

How's the Bluetooth? It was a main issue in the M1's

Q. Can I use an iPad Pro (12.9”) as the monitor with a mac Mini? Thanks

Been watching all your videos to try figure out what monitor to get as a student wanting to upgrade. I am going from an intel Macbook pro to mac mini M2. But the monitor is my biggest problem to find. Obviously budget conscious but I'll be joining the professional world of photography and graphics design by next year, so I'm stuck. Lol any advice is appreciated
