The biggest sign of maturity is, when someone does something bad to you, you try to understand why they did it instead of exploding.

Me: I’m so emotionally mature
Also me: **watches this at 3:00am**

Edit: For those wondering why this comment was on May 29 and the video was posted on May 30, I can’t remember for sure, but I think the video was unlisted before.

*To me, emotional maturity means:*

• You respect other people's boundaries
• You're honest about your emotions (I struggle with this sometimes)
• You acknowledge your own flaws
• You respect yourself and don't let others push YOUR boundaries (my biggest struggle)
• You don't purposely hurt or embarrass the people you care about
• You know exactly what you want and how you feel (another struggle of mine)
• You don't live to impress others or gain their attention
• You don't break things or hurt others out of frustration/anger
• You don't put yourself before others
• You're able to take criticism
• When someone calls you out for your own toxic behavior, you discuss it rather than blow them off and dismiss it
• You realize that everyone has their own struggles, even if their lives appear to be perfect
• You don't ridicule others who are struggling
• You don't tell overly hurtful or offensive jokes at the expense of others and then get salty when they don't laugh
• You don't try too hard to appear "mature" for the sake of looking "cool" or "sophisticated"
• You don't let others pick your identity or control your life
• You don't get pissed off when someone doesn't laugh at your joke
• You're sensitive to other people's feelings
*And finally*
• You don't say crap like, "Oh I'm soo mature for my age! I'm not like other people in my generation. I'm wise beyond my years. I'm *insert any age older than them* by heart."

I’m not perfect yet, but I’m trying to be more emotionally mature myself. I tend to overreact sometimes.

They understand their emotions, are aware of them and never blame themselves or anyone else for feeling that way. Always remember that feeling sad today doesn't make you a sad person.

Having control and awareness over one's own emotions is a difficult feat. Learning and application of said strategies is the best solution.

Being self aware
Accepting things and moving on rather than whining about it
Not taking things personally, letting go because your peace of mind is more important
Being kind even though the other person is hard on you

This explains why I *feel* older than I am. 😅
When I was younger, I wasn't sure what people meant when they said I was an "old soul, " or "wise beyond my time."
Now, I look back and thank my mother, my friends and myself for having the support to gain this maturity. 🧡
