Me using 2012 but advancing it with item frames that have maps with pictures of blocks on them so that they blend perfectly into the wall

I remember the times when redstone didn't exist. The mechanical doors would have been built out of sand, signs and a cactus. You could only open them once. And to finish a level in a puzzle map you had to get/find a sand or a gravel block and put it in a special hole in the wall. 🙂

Using trap doors for the top and bottom of the painting hole makes it so you have to shift to enter. You can't check it how everyone instinctually checks it it's the best version of the painting trick because unless you know about this you will only check the paintings normally by just walking into them

The pufferfish is a great idea. I did something similar. Have a pool of water in your hidden base connected to an observer to the door. You open it by wearing Frost Walker II boots and walking up to the wall. The boots freeze the water, and the observer detects it and opens the door.
