Sometimes what is considered a 'codex' can get a little hazy.

That XP shut down sound sent me back in time!

These videos are just so *cozy*, I can't really describe it

My roommate in college, who introduced me to 40k, had a copy of Army Builder (which meant I did as well) and we would make lists constantly. We would do a lot of weird stress test lists, like how many wounds could you fit into 1500 points, etc. The 3rd edition chaos codex was amazing for dumb gimmicky lists that might be overpowered in very specific circumstances, like infiltrating jump pack troops with save ignoring flame template weapons and other such nonsense. I had so many of those stupid lists saved.

Wib, I do that on battlescribe too, but my 3d printer lets me print my dreams more often. Running a Mechanized Infantry Guard list right now, because walking to a battlefield is for losers. Considering printing either a Guard Tank company with 8 Russes or an all Terminator Deathwing Army.

Pen and paper army lists are still a lot of fun. I have a notebook I keep army builds, notes, etc in and it's great going back through it and rethinking old builds or trying out changes.

I used this back in the day, that's not how it used to print and it was super useful. Guard armies back then were way more in depth, so this really made it easy to build.

Used to use a cracked version of lone wolf army builder which helped build my battle fleet gothic list and find all the old imperial guard codex approved units. Lot of fun building fantasy lists involving forge world models too.

It’s been a while since the dark crusaders were mentioned, and all I can say is, they actually sound very interesting and I wished they had more lore because they do sound very badass

To this day those BA assault Marines artwork is one of my favourite depictions of Astartes.

you're not alone! i definitely used to write up lists for armies that i would never actually own, using books borrowed from my brother or friends. i'm not sure i still do… i use battlescribe to write up experimental army lists, but mostly for the army that i _do_ collect… somewhat perversely now that i have a level of access to "other" codices through e.g. battlescribe, i don't really use it to demo "what if" army lists so much as peek at what other factions' rules are like

Huh, I have that white Dwarf and was active in the hobby during its' release, but I had completely forgotten this was a thing. Thanks for always digging up these obscurities!

I make plenty of fantasy army lists, you’re not alone! Usually spinning off from a single random mini I have lying around...

Seeing this makes me want to play third edition, I have the rulebook, the 2 of the codexes and the models. Thank you for this video, it has inspired me.

Don’t worry Wib, I make lists of armies that I both have and don’t all the time and even from games I don’t play. I’m quite literally doing it right now with the Horus Heresy game.

LOL, I have the IAL box next to my painting station. Was just looking at it before I saw this video.

I remember someone kept installing it in the Comp lab back in college, and there was an active attempt by the staff to know who it was (hint: me, I just wanted to make fantasy lists of figures I could not afford at the time).

I had that program, and it was a pain to get to work then as well.

Also... you really had those operating systems discs! Truly, you are tech priests!

Oh my, I remember the Enemies of the Imperium one and playing with it. Or at least the box art reminds me of something I've played with.
I feel so old.

I kept an Excel spreadsheet for army lists, served me well.
