Small but MIGHTY 🍅 3 Reasons Why I LOVE Dwarf Tomatoes (And You Will Too)

Dwarf tomatoes have been the star of the show lately and for good reason! Here's why I'm SO OBSESSED with dwarf tomatoes.

LOTS OF VARIETY

The plant might be small, but the actual fruit doesn't have to be. Check out the size of this beefy tomato! It looks like it just came off of a full-size plant, and that's how these little guys can produce.

Yes, there are small tomato plants that produce small tomatoes. Heck, there are even micro tomatoes which are really fun to grow too!

The "dwarf" part refers to the size of the plant itself. Within that, there are different shapes, sizes, colors, and types of tomatoes.

LOTS OF PRODUCTIVITY

You can see these plants on the farm are just loaded with tomatoes! Are these going to out-produce a massive indeterminate tomato plant? No, but they hold their own respective to their size.

If you have limited space, don't need a ton of tomatoes, or just prefer minimal maintenance, these are a GREAT option.

LOTS OF OPTIONS

As of today, we currently carry only five varieties of dwarf tomatoes. However, there are tons of options out there, and more are available each year.

We're trialing quite a few varieties this summer. We'll choose the very best, and then we'll add them to our seed catalog this fall.

I planted a handful of your dwarf Romas in my greenstalk and they are doing so much better than my indeterminate. My first time growing romas too.

yay! I've never gone tomatoes from seed but this is my first year growing dwarf varieties from the garden center. And it was really hard to find them. So I'm going to try still this summer and I'm excited about what you guys are going over there

I'm definitely excited to try out dwarf tomato plants. I really like cherry tomato plants just because they are small. So it seems like Id like a small plant with some slicers ans sauce tomatoes.

what do you spray on your tomato plants to get rid of pests? Mine are covered with spider webs which probably means lots of bugs around. Would never pluck and pop one right in my mouth.

The dwarf tomatoes you sent to me from the seed club are the only ones that have survived the Florida heat wave & tsunamis, we’ve been getting. I lost all of my other varieties but they look very healthy and beautiful. I love them so much I’m starting some more for my fall crop! I think I’m with you on the dwarf tomatoes all the way!

I'm growing some dwarf beefsteak this year and I've been very happy with them. I would say though, do make sure to stake them. I had a a branch absolutely loaded with almost 1lb fruits that snapped. Luckily they were blushing and I didn't lose them.

I’m going to plant these next year. I have very tall raised beds & traditional tomatoes was super difficult this year and I had to pull them already. I was so sad

I just placed an order and I’m looking forward to growing them next spring 🙌🏾

I’m highly considering dwarf tomatoes for next year. I’m the only one who eats tomatoes in my house so a huge plant isn’t ideal for just me. Way too much space taken up when I can grow something smaller with more companions the rest of my family will eat.

Is it recommended to prune suckers on these dwarfs or do you just let them bush out? I think my wife bought at least ten dwarf varieties from you lol

Since there are less leaves, is there less disease?

I would really be interested in the Roma type drawf. Couldn’t find them on your web site. I have a green stalk and believe it would work well in there

What is the first variety that you show in this video? I can't find it in the comments or description

I bought dwarf tomatoes from you and can’t wait to grow them. One thing I noticed is that the ones I got say they are indeterminate. Does that indicated that they will grow like a vine and will need a trellis system like other indeterminates or should I expect them to bush and be supported by a stake like the ones in this video?

Was just wondering about your growing calendar ~ do you do a new every year? Wasn't sure if I should just buy the 2023 or wait for 2024 version 🤔
