Shore Excursions | Watch This Before Booking!! Booking shore excursion with the cruise line, through a third party or on your own is always an interesting topic! Services like Shore Excursioneer and Shore Excursions Group offer plenty of options for shore excursions at each port. If you want to save money, this will be your best route! Cruise lines charge a premium to book with their sponsored tours, but you are guaranteed that the ship will not leave without you! So do the pros outweigh the cons?

Do you book your shore excursions through the cruise line? Or do you go about finding some on your own??

So many people find the taxy from outside and they get cheated by taxi driver or guide.
And port stay also very limited if wanna explore the city must book shore excursions..

Went to Alaska on carnival, booked all excursions, (3) with the parent co, s. Not thru carnival. Saved a lot of money and had no problems at all!

One other con, if you book with an outside vendor and your ship misses the port, you may not be entitled to a refund. Many vendors do provide refunds for missed ports, but it is important to check out the details before booking.

I think I might book with Royal Caribbean for my first cruise

What we started doing the last cruise is just walking around and looking for buses doing tours of the island. We only paid about $20/person that way, and we're being shown the area by a local. And it feels like an adventure! I never thought about the bus breaking down, though; thanks for that image.

Congrats on subscriber 500!!!

Some great information on the pros and cons. We started out with cruise line excursions but quickly learned that we preferred booking with an outside party or just "free styling" it. One awful experience in St Thomas with Celebrity was them charging 3X the price just to stuff us in to a taxi to haul us to the beach. we could have just caught a taxi ourselves and saved a bundle. We learned that ship booked excursions really don't offer anything that we can't either book ourselves or do completely on our own.

We have booked with Shore Excursioneer as well as through other companies. All have worked out okay. For the most part, those outside vendors want to get you back to the ship on time. They don't want to risk their name and reputation being drug through the mud on the Internet and TripAdvisor with poor reviews. If you book with some of the bigger consolidators like Shore Excursioneer, they offer "insurance" that if you miss your ship, they will pay for you to get to the next port.

However, there is an exception. One excursion we always book through the ship is to St John while stopped in St Thomas. We often book the Self Explore St John type excursions where they just ferry you over there and you are on your own. We know that we could do it on our own, but it just seems to much of a hassle to save perhaps $20pp. The ship excursion has the ferry right there by the ship to pick you up and take you there. If you do it on your own, you need to consider the logistics of getting to the ferry in Red Hook and the cost of taxis each way. Taxis in the USVI are expensive!

Even with the ship booked St John excursions, I suppose if you miss the ferry back to St John, you could still be left behind when the ship sails since the onus is on you to make sure you get back to the port in St John to catch the ferry back since you are on your own on the island.

If you get hurt on the excursion with carnival you automatically have accident insurance. That’s worth it alone to me. 🤷🏼‍♀️

shore excursions two reasons, far away from port two three hours away, and skip line tickets. if ship does not offer your wish, then consider third party. how would you consider rent car vs trains? biggest is about making it back to ship on time.

fourth reason is skip visa, fifth language.

Would you be able to make a video with a sample of some shore excursions you’ve done and how you timed them? Specifically Nassau, Half Moon Cay or Grand Turk
