Day 157 of asking Matt to play Mindustry.

Finally... after all these days, months, he played it, words can not express how happy and grateful we are for this. May Mindustry be part of your channel, and thank you for playing it. We are happy and thankful for this. We thank you, Matt. And thank you for mentioning me. (Also part 2 when?)

I love how you can tell he’s failed the second level at least once because the ghost buildings show where you’ve built before

This is probably going to be drowned out, but there's a few things that are helpful to know about the game
1. Enemies will always choose the quickest path and the one with the least walls
2. Turrets can use different types of ammo and they give different buffs like more damage
3. In the first few sectors you can literally just drag a line of routers with turrets next to it and walls but this will be very inneficient and shouldnt be used later on.
4. The recourses in the research tree are combined from all sectors and are spent (sectors also generate resources while you are in other sectors)
5. It's pretty helpful checking the ratio of how many recourse a factory takes and how much your belts can transport for peak efficiency
6. Instead of building little coal generators everywhere, make one coal node your power production with batteries and supply the rest of the map via power nodes. Later on theres also some better power generators
7. You don't have to manually replace everything that has been destroyed, there is a tool where you can just drag and click and it will rebuild destroyed buildings. you can activate it by holding "B" (PC) or using copy+paste and then selecting the repair tool (Mobile)
(If anyone knows more tips, tell me)

I hope this becomes a series, Mindustry is one of my favorite indie titles, and its getting criminally little attention.

Seven tips:
1. Yes, resource ores are indeed infinite.
2. As other commenters have pointed out, you can hold down... I think it was B. You can hold B and drag a box to automatically queue up rebuilding destroyed buildings. You can also hold F iirc to drag a box around something you've created and save it as a *Schematic.* You'll find these very useful later.
3. The main sectors (such as Frozen Forest) can be launched to from anywhere, you don't have to manually make your way through the numbered sectors to get to them. Note that the numbered sectors can get really hard, really fast if you aren't careful. Focus on the named sectors first, as that's what most of your Research will be locked behind other than resources.
4. The Graphite Smelter converts Coal into Graphite at no power cost. You can use this for more advanced buildings and units, along with better turret ammo. Perhaps most notably, you can use it for the Pneumatic Drill, a drill that's just a solid all-around upgrade to the Mechanical Drill and takes up no extra space, drilling faster and capable of mining better resources. You can place these directly over your Mechanical Drills to upgrade them, you don't need to deconstruct them first.
5. Once you have access to the Pneumatic Drill, you can use it to mine Titanium. This is also used for a number of advanced buildings and units, but its best use in my opinion is the Titanium Conveyor, a conveyor belt that transports items at 2.75x the speed of a normal one. Very useful. Like with Pneumatic Drills, you can place these directly on top of your normal Conveyors to upgrade them without needing to deconstruct them first.
6. On Ground Zero, you built a bridge over your conveyors and did a Bridge Review. This was unnecessary. You do not need to bridge over conveyors, a simple Junction will do. Additionally, if you simply just drag a line of conveyors, the game will do whatever it can to get through any obstacles (including your buildings and other conveyors) without leaving the line you're dragging, be it by placing Junctions or Bridge Conveyors. Those Bridge Conveyors can also bridge over up to three tiles of natural terrain if you haven't already
figured that out.
7. Be mindful of your resources when building defenses. Turrets tend to be expensive and use up a lot of resources very quickly when you're building them.

Mindustry gets insane in the later levels. Fun fact, its also an open source game.
Missed opportunity to tell the audience about another kind of engineer a software engineer and open source. Which is super important.

As an experienced Mindustry player: a little tip against air units:

The smallest enemy attacks generators, the tier 2 attacks factories. And should you face the tier 3: it attacks 'containers'.

Thus the tip: You can use these blocks as bait. And if you don't have any of these, they just go for your core.

I hope this performs well for RCE- I don't know that I've ever actually bothered to watch anyone play Mindustry, but it's definitely a favorite on my own Steam account.
I'd love to see him get to wrap his head around some of the more complex builds and see what sort of chaos gets produced as a result.

I almost had a heart attack when you tried mixing the sand and coal on the same belt! You have no idea how large of a bullet you dodged there

Oh my gosh! I'm so happy this game is getting attention! It's one of my favorites and never seems to get enough attention on youtube. Underrated!
