20 years fashion cycle is now 10 years thanks to fast fashion 💀

as an employee of american eagle, i can confirm that almost all of our clothes don’t line up with current trends. they’re mostly takes on trends from either 10 years ago or 50 years ago, there’s a lot of variety!

it’s so weird that the 2010s are “coming back” especially this soon

Best advice I ever got was: Do not buy what is “trendy”, but what you like and what you will wear even when the trend has worn off. This saved me a lot of money.

What I’m hoping is that the trend cycle will speed up to a point where it obliterates itself and we can all just wear whatever we want without worrying about being “on trend.”

Listen up kiddos. Yes. You're not imagining it. The baby doll top DOES make literally everyone who wears it look bloated. Don't give in! Run away, run far far away!

2 clothing items I never got rid of are the cold shoulder shirts and the oversized cardigan. I might have stopped wearing them, but now is the moment to pull those bad boys out 😂

I don’t understand how people say “this is in and that’s out” just wear whatever from whatever time period.

One of the best things of my college experience is that whenever I went to a party; there were people dressed “in trend” and then there were gems; people dressed like it’s 80s, 90s, y2k, 50s, 60s, 70s and my ultimate favorite. Some dude dressed like he was from the early 1900s.

There’s just something nice about not seeing people in a uniformed style.
I think now a days everyone is way to caught up in how to dress in trend rather than dress in what they like.

When I was a teenager in the mid-to-late 90s, my mom was *disgusted* by all the 70s style clothes & shoes that were popular again. Everytime I bought a new pair of platforms, she would re-tell the story of how she once wiped out in front of a guy she was flirting with, while wearing her own platforms in the 70s. I was like, “It’s not the same, Mom!😩” And now I’m seeing my own millennial closet resurrected from the dead…& it IS the same! lol

I wore my high lo skirts so often, as well as the longest necklaces with different owl pendants because “owls were my thing” and I absolutely could not forget my rose gold micheal kors watch to tie the entire look together. Oh and don’t forget the strappiest gladiator sandals that always left very embarrassing tan lines on my feet. Perfection 😂💜🫶🏽

I’m thinking about the yoga studio scene in Orange is the new Black where the character was wearing these & was asked if they were vintage. What year was that? This Gen Xer can no longer keep track. I remember shaming my Mom, at least mentally, for still wearing Mom jeans, and late night talk shows were doing so as well as SNL. Then they came back around and eventually I was shamed out of them myself only to go through the Damn High rise Mom jeans era all over again with my daughter who was probably shaming me mentally for not wearing Mom jeans at the same age I probably was when I shamed my Mom for wearing them! It’s soooo crazy! I can’t!!!

We don't even get a whole decade before trends come back 😭 just saw a brown and creme striped Hollister v neck sweater at goodwill and it instantly sent me back to 2006
