One important thing you missed out is that the film was banned mostly because the Third Reich believed it to be very anti nationalistic and defeatist. Since Germany was propping itself to be highly militaristic nation and was prepping for war, an anti war film that does not glorify Germany's role in WW1 or war in general was against Nazi ideology policies during that era

Portraying war as brutal and pointless didn’t exactly align with Nazi ideas of conquest and honor through being a soldier. It had less to do with people feeling badly about losing WW1 and more to do with going against nationalist ideas.

Was also banned in Turkey by Ataturk who loved the movie tho banned it because Turks were still healing from WW1..

Germany wasn’t the only country to ban this btw. This film was in general seen around all western countries as a movie that was meant to be non patriotic and showed that wars aren’t dying for, 14 countries banned it including Britain, America, France, Bulgaria etc. I’m sick and tired of Germans being dragged through the mud for their history and being blamed for everything and having the role in history as the mean people even tho everything they did was something the allies also did. It’s time for history to become neutral again.
