As an artist you'll hear a lot of advice on finding your style, but often the tips are vague and impractical. I'm taking everything I've learned so far as an art student to demystify what exactly makes an art style, and at the end of the video show you my process to build your own! It just takes some no bs art principles, practice, and 3 steps to find your own art style :)

"don't find your art style. build your own art style". i clicked this video because I really agree that we must build and create our OWN art style, 🎨not finding it. I don't get that people are searching for an art style and not creating their own. creating your own arts style is a unique thing because your personality and style will reflect into it.

it's like your own "avatar".

All the tips you mentioned here are things we can all use no matter what our skill level is and I love that!! 🥰

I think the best way to description my art style is semi realistic with a hint of cartoon vibes! i usually like to keep the proportions as close to realism as possible. the cartoon vibes come in with the colors. i love using bring and vibrant colors! also, library is a major aspect of my art 🤣

Recently, I struggled to find my own style because I didn’t know how to apply my own creativity into the works I make. My artworks often look unfinished and messy because i test around with proportions and doors, but get so overstimulated by the mess that I wind up not touching it. No YouTube video or advice off the web had helped me, but this video broke down everything concisely ❤️😭

What I like about my art/style?
It's disturbing, horrorish, devoid, cartoonish, animative, simple, crooked and distorted :D
Heavy black lines everywhere used for various functions, rather dark colors, low saturation, highly expressive a bit uncanny... Minor gradient for shading/depth.
Fits me.
And fits my usage of them.

But it teaches me allot to once in a while try to do the opposite of my own art, because it helps me realize what works better for my style and what hinders it.

The idea about stylizing for me, is to deliver a specific feeling that fits the sensation I want to deliver.
And I think that's the best approach in stylizing, as well as in hearing critique - understand how people feel from what they see, and what exactly you wish to deliver to them through the style.
A style is about expression first and foremost, in my opinion.

I usually prefer traditional art and practicing since I was in school still after about 7 years I couldn't find my actual art style, sometimes I like graphite sketch while sometimes charcoal while other time paintings seems to be my art form, while sometimes I think I should switch to digital art. ITS SO COMPLICATED 😂

I have a question: Would you say posting a video which one made in the comment section of a similar video - no go OR go for it?

oh, the neverending quest of finding style. I have sort of given up on it and I just create lots and lots in all sort of materials that I can get my hands on! I just shared my latest video, "a week in the life of an illustrator" and would love it if you checked it out!
