LaVern Baker with "Dix-A-Billy" recorded from the original Canadian 78 rpm shellac single on Atlantic AT. 2007. Released in Canada and the US in November 1958, the A-side "I Cried A Tear" peaked at Nr. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Chart. Both sides were recorded on September 11, 1958 in New York City with LaVern Baker on lead vocals, Al Caiola on electric lead guitar, Milt Hinton on bass, Ernie Hayes on piano, Urbie Green on trombone, Leon Cohen on alto sax, King Curtis on tenor sax and Panama Francis on drums. Backing vocals by Bill Marine, Marcia Neil, Jerry Parker and Mike Stewart. Arranged by Reggie Obrecht and produced by Jerry Wexler. Words and music by Woody Harris, Paul Evans and Jack Reardon.
