Nicely done. I wouldn’t call this a floating shelf though because the brackets are clearly visible. My idea of a floating shelf is the one where you have these pegs sticking out from the wall that go inside the shelf.

Great tips in this video for a new homeowner or anyone new to diy, the most important one is to bin the wall plugs that come with the brackets and use fischer plugs.

I’d have probably avoided screwing the brackets to the shelve the first time but as you did, if you’d attached them upside down, you could have used the shelve with a level on plus the attached brackets to find the perfect position for the holes for the wall.

These look great, I think I'd take it one step further and set these into the wood slightly with the palm router!

Wouldn't it be better to put the brackets up then mark the holes for the screws into the oak?

Great video. Wouldn't it have been easier to mount the brackets on the wall first and then offer up the shelf and mark the holes in the shelf to drill, surely doing it that way round is more fool proof to maker sure everything lines up!??

That is amazing! Those shelves are beutiful! Gunna be using this method for some rooms.... so far pre packed kits never hold and would love solid wood up! Brilliant! Very good video. I am learning loads watching these and I hate drilling but for a women it is amazing advice and how to! Keep it up dude! Be great to see how u hang big box units up on the wall or using something like kallax kit from ikea to divid up a room. That's my next haven't a clue yet how, so if u do one be great to watch.

Hey Cameron, love the attention to detail, the envelope trick was just so simple but so handy. The shelves look great, and such a simple yet striking job. Must say, I'd probably not put too heavy a thing on them, wood and cheap screws, but for ornaments and the odd book, perfect. Any tips for laying that ever so popular wood flooring panels. I would like to maybe have that as I'm a ground floor flat, but would beg people who live over others to never have wood flooring panels, it's a noise hell for those below as I know (especially if they have young kids..Grrrr). Paul..
