Winterizing Tips to Keep Your Yard's Bird Habitat Ready for the Winter

Just because the leaves are changing and the temperature is dropping doesn’t mean that the birds you’ve been feeding all summer have to go away. Many species of birds that don’t migrate south for the winter and will need a safe reliable place to feed during the winter months. There’s nothing like looking out your window after a fresh snowfall and seeing flashes of color dart around your yard as Cardinals, Blue Jays and other types of birds flock to your yard to feed. All you need to do is make a few changes to your feeding routine and you’ll enjoy watching wild birds all winter long.

I wish I had the money to do all these suggestions. I can afford to give them some food but beyond one bird house and a homemade bird bath that's all I have! One day birdies, one day I'll have a sanctuary for you.. love my birds!

I need help. We live on a 1st floor apartment. Our neighbor on the 2nd floor just moved in and uses an owl decoy which has affected birds (and humming birds) to come visit our beautiful patio, bird feeders and bird bath. Before she moved in our birds visited often and had so much fun.
Can you give me advice on how we can get the birds to return to our bird haven.

I would like to have the Birds, but we live in a High RAT population area and Rats move in under the house then somewhere get into the Heating/AC soft duct system, then we smell Rat Urine in the House. We can not use Rat Poison, when the rat Dies, any other Animal or Bird that eat them dies also. So what to do?

I'm heartbroken. The recent unusual subzero temperatures in my area resulted in the deaths of 20+ birds in my yard alone. As I retrievd their pitiful little bodies, , I counted 5 bluebirds, at least a dozen robins,
