Time Stamps:
00:00 Intro
00:42 Chain & R1
03:32 R2
05:52 Color Change
06:30 R3 Start of 3 Row Repeat
09:50 R4
11:25 R5
12:26 Continue Repeat
13:28 Last Row and Finish
14:23 Straighten Edge
16:33 Meet The Kittens

Pattern Notes:
Shell: 2dc, ch1, 2dc
Ext 2dctog:
Yarn over, insert hook in st, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook)
Yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook (2 loops on hook)
Yarn over, insert hook in same st , pull up a loop ( 4 loops on hook)
Yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook (3 loops on hook)
Yarn over, pull through all 3 loops

To make this "extended", follow the patten directions for st location. Also, pull on your yarn slightly when pulling through st to help reach the height of the other stitches in the row as shown in video.

Make chain using a multiple of 5

R1 Dc in 4th ch from hook. * Sk 4 chains and make a shell in the 5th ch. Repeat * across until you have 6 remaining ch's. Dc in last 2 ch's.

Ch 3 and turn. (I prefer to ch 2 or do the stacked sc). This will serve as your first dc throughout the pattern for each row.

R2 Dc in 2nd stitch. Work a shell into the ch1 space of the shell st from the previous row. Repeat across. Add a dc in last 2 stitches. Ch3 and turn

Changes colors. 3 Row Repeat Begins

R3 Dc in 2nd stitch. * Work the extended 2 dctog in space from 2 rows below. Work a shell into the ch1 space of the shell st from the previous row. Work the extended 2 dctog in space from 2 rows below. Repeat * across until 2 stitches remain. Add a dc in the last 2 stitches.
Ch3 and turn

R4 Dc in 2nd stitch. Work a shell into the ch1 space of the shell st from the previous row. Repeat across. Add a dc in last 2 stitches. Ch3 and turn.

R5 Repeat R4

To Finish repeat Row 3 for your last row. Fasten off

To straighten Edge, I used this sequence:

Hdc, hdc , dc. Then * hdc, sc, sc, sc, hdc, dc . Repeat * across until you do your last dc. End with 1 hdc in last 2 sts.

This is just a suggestion. Play with it and see what works best for you

Hi Friends, I hope you enjoy the video. I am really loving this stitch but I'm sure that's no surprise if you've seen any of my videos. I am a big cat lover and I appreciate that you don't fuss about the cat hair that usually appears in my videos. lol. Let me know if you've done this one before. It's a lot of fun! x

This was my sister's favorite stitch. When she died in 2013, I made all of her grandsbabies a blanket with their favorite colors and this stitch. It's a super easy and beautiful stitch.

I started to crochet a vest with this motif. I made a little change which I think made it better: For the second row instead of the shell (2dc+1ch+2dc) I made 5 dc. This way there isn't a hole in the middle of the face of the cats :) Thank you very much, as another cat lover I really appreciate this motif.

I have been wanting to learn this stitch! Thank you!
On an amusing note, my husband sat down to watch the video with me. I think he’s convinced crochet is some sort of magic. How interesting to think that I can follow along easily with the stitches, but for him it’s gibberish.

I tried to make a scarf using this pattern by following along with another video and it was aweful!. However, I found your video and it was a breeze! You are an amazing teacher and easy to follow along with as you crochet. You make sure we can see where you place your stitches and explain everything very well! Thank you so much for everything including the printable pattern! As a self taught crocheter, you have made my life so much easier!

I don't know how I've lived this many years without encountering this stitch. I absolutely adore it! And thank you for making your videos so clear and easy to understand. I'm going to go loot my yarn stash now to see if I have appropriate colours for the kitties of my life.🐱

This is by far the cutest stitch I've ever seen. Gonna start small with a dishcloth.

This really is a fun crochet pattern. I just finished a big cat stitch blanket using Bernat blanket/chenille yarn. It's warm, heavy and delightful!

I don't know if anyone else would like this, but for my last row I did a slightly different sequence (Also, I'm sorry if someone already commented this and I didn't see). I am one of those people who wants everything to be perfectly symmetrical, so instead of (hdc, hdc, dc. Then hdc, sc, sc, sc, hdc, dc. Repeat.) I instead did (stacked single crochet, chain 2. Then 1 slip stitch into the stitch right of the center (of the shell), chain 1, 1 slip stitch into the stitch left of the center (of the shell), chain 3*. Repeat across, finishing with 2 dc at the end.) Sorry if the way I wrote this is confusing, since I've never written/typed out a pattern before. When you do it this way, there will be little gaps similar to how the start of this stitch looks! Thank you so much for the awesome pattern!!

Have a friend that this stitch is perfect for! She has cute little black kitties. This pattern in black and white yarns will be so fun. Thanks!

I'm really bad at crocheting. I do plan to try this stitch. What has me commenting before I even watch this video is the cat element. I had the most wonderful Siamese of almost 20 years. When I decided to try my hand at crocheting and knitting, he was already quite wisend. I started around 2017, the little fella was born in 2002. He helped me roll every ball of yarn for every bad afghan I knitted or crocheted. As I brushed him, I always worked some of his fur into each and every thing I made so I would have part of him in everything I made for as long as it held together. They aren't pretty works by any means, but they are all perfectly rectangular, and either double crochet or basic knit. There are pull marks from our tug of war as he played and I crocheted. He's been gone since 2021 and I'm just now picking my crochet hooks up again.

Oh my goodness!😍 Now I've just got to figure out a way to use this stitch in the round and make a little long pullover sweater dress for a great grandbaby with it! 🤔 So so cute! Thank you!
