I think people really misunderstand the delena scene we have this episode, it’s not about the bond that Stefan and Elena shares with each other, it’s about how well Damon knows Elena.

First of all Elena tried to resist Silas’s mind control, she tried to stop herself from killing Damon by hurting herself and Damon is so smart, he figured out exactly what Silas’s plan was just like he said Silas was using Elena’s anger toward Damon as a trigger, he said bunch of lies to her about Damon to get her mad and at the same time he was making it look like Stefan is still heartbroken for what she did so he could play on her guilt and because Damon knows Elena inside out and better than anyone he tried to change her emotions from anger to Guilt.
So what really stoped Elena from killing Damon was not the love she feels for Stefan, it was the guilt that she always feels toward Stefan. One of the reasons that it took her a long time to admit her feelings for Damon was the guilt she felt for Stefan and Damon knows that too so he was trying to find another extreme emotions in Elena other than anger and that was guilt. He slowly turned her emotions from anger to guilt and literally telling her to embrace the “bad feelings” she gets for Stefan so he could distract her and at the same time because Elena was also feeling guilty about not sharing this with Damon the fact that she had a pit in her stomach for Stefan all summer, now that she finally poured her heart out to Damon and and got this off her chest and shows her vulnerability to her boyfriend, that brings her peace and calmness( the opposite of anger) that literally destroyed the trigger that Silas build in her mind. This scene was all about how much Damon knows Elena.
