The extra hole reduces weight, and adds ventilation. Perfection.

It's interesting to realize how easy it is to overlook things! I just started playing E:D again using a several-year-old X52, and like you described... tiny amount of movement and I kept getting a tiny flicker of a disconnect and all heck breaks loose, I kept ending up pitching or rolling in whatever random direction. It never occurred to me though that the direction I got stuck going in was based on stick position at the time of disconnecting/reconnecting... until I watched your video.

In addition to realizing that... your video then provided me with the realization that I can easily fix this issue by simply hard wiring the throttle & stick together and do away with the weak points altogether! As my desk mounts stow out of the way well enough, I don't need to be able to easily disconnect the two... SO, I figure, I'll just snip the connectors off and solder the wires directly to their respective PCBs. It won't be much different than when I started with the T.Flight Hotas X, they were perma-connected and it didn't bother me in the slightest.... it just didn't hold up for very long, and the X52 was what I had upgraded to. Now, I'm waiting for my X56 to arrive... my next upgrade, and this little soldering project will give me something to do in the meantime!

So thank you for the video! One way or the other it was a tremendous help!

I actually got a Saitek branded X52 HOTAS that I was looking to get a new cable for, and seeing this made me realize I could just buy a few RJ45 breakout boards and rewire these things to use a length of cheap CAT6 Ethernet cord. $7 and a little time seems like a good tradeoff for an infinitely better connector

I stopped that same tilting of the controller base by gluing some old HDD magnets to the bottom and putting a large sheet of steel on my desk. I also attached a piece or angle iron sticking out the front of my pc char's arm rest. This makes a great attachment point for casual laid back use.

Why have tech companies "forgotten" how to just make cables that aren't shit? I thought we had this solved a long time ago.

I wish those things cost less these days. They haven't depreciated much and the new ones are a small fortune

Nice stuff. I did something similar to my Hotas X. The original cable was too short so I used some cheap HDMI cable, hard wired it to the joystick and attached a 25pin connector to the throttle, it has two safety screws on the sides just like the VGA/DVI connector on pc monitors.

Ditto, I get a bit of random flicker on the one of the rotaries on the throttle, whilst looking for some info and fix I found this video and also I didn't realize the stick position at the time of connect/disconnect fixed the axis! My HOTAS is in pretty good nick at this time but probably could do with reflowing the solder to start with, and one of those cable mods would be well cool, not today though, one day! Thanks for the video, I will certainly look into this, tidy! Have a fun day! ;D

Interesting use of cabling. Certainly better than the lousy cable they come with.

Awesome mod should do the world a favor and make more videos

2x RJ plugs or 2x SATA cables and splice together or connect the 2 using a straight or reverse connector

Nice! Do you have specs and a video on the how to, cause im no electrician or anything, but i'm sure with some guidance I can do this myself with a spec guide

can you share with us your wiring layout of which wires you connected from the RJ45 to where on each PCB, and what side of the keystone 568-A or -B '... ?

i made a wireless connection between the two devices. the latency is so low that it dosnt matter. the only downside to this is that the flight stick is now battery powerd!

Perfect!...First, looking at you hermit.

Why didn't you use an RJ45 female connector on the joystick and throttle base? Was there not enough room inside?

If I can only sort the ghosting issues on that HOTAS

i do have a question !!! do you think someone could use a Splitter 6 pin Mini Din Male Plug to 2 x Female Sockets to connect 2 flight sticks 2 one throttle and they both work ?

maybe consider just using an RJ45 connector? solid, sturdy connection, 8 wires, used for years in computers(ethernet), cables are dirt cheap, as are the connectors, and it might be smaller(not 100% sure) and if you loose the cable(say you bring it to a lan party, and forget the cable, or something else) you just need to buy 1-2 meter of ethernet cable and you are running again..

that is my plan once i get the parts.
