Step inside this wonderfully preserved Tudor Manor built in 1485!

Curated by Mapperton’s very own American Viscountess, Julie Montagu, the "American Heiress" collection is comprised of more than 10,000 previously unseen letters exchanged between Alberta (Sturges) Montagu and her family, as well as the peerage at large.

Dating from 1888 to 1951, these letters constitute the largest unpublished private collection of correspondence from the period. They offer a remarkable glimpse into the life of a "dollar bride" during the Gilded Age, shedding light on both triumphs and struggles.

The exhibition will explore Alberta's formative years in America, her upbringing in Chicago and New York, and the significance of her inheritance. Visitors will unravel the captivating courtship between Alberta and George Montagu, the future 9th Earl of Sandwich, leading to their marriage in 1905 in London. The narrative will culminate with her relocation to Hinchingbrooke House, the original family seat, in 1916 as the new Countess, following the death of the 8th Earl of Sandwich.

The exhibition takes innovation to the next level by introducing Alberta AI, a ground-breaking creation that brings her story to life like never before.

I love that Giles restored the Elizabethan kitchen. This was a beautiful tour, so outstanding that solar energy is allowing this home to be economical. How fun to have pottage, too

What a fresh and clever approach, in Germany people have these panels on the balconies now and the heatpumps in their gardens, so great to sea that in these circumstances! You guys should do that immediately too! I bet these technologies, being around now for some years, may not be as costly as before!

This was a really wonderful episode. It must have been a challenge to be lady of the manor in the 1400's. The solar installation is simply miraculous . I found the addition of solar at our place pretty efficient. The year the electric company ended up owing us money at true up month was the inspiration for a huge neighborhood celebration. It would be fantastic if you could get a grant for a similar system at Mapperton. It would be so educational for your school children visitors.

That was amazing to see an original great hall! I love that he's taken the kitchen back to Tudor times too. The gardens are stunning but I have to say my favourite bit was seeing the eucalyptus in all its stunning glory standing there proudly as a feature tree from the antipodies! I'm Australian and I just love them!

I've learned so much by watching this - especially regarding the solar panels. I am really considering putting one on my small single wide home to help with the high electric bills in the summer since I live in the high southwest desert. Our city actually has a large field of solar panels, I don't know how many acres. But I always love watching your videos. One of the reasons I like British shows is because they almost always have at least one manor in their shows.

Viscountess this particular place was a little more unique as it has grasped modern technology to be able to maintain the property, certainly food for thought when it comes to Mapperton Manor. Another most interesting, wonderful and very in-depth look into this most unique property. Thank you for allowing us to part of your journeys. Take care and God Bless

That kitchen reminds me of the one in the Prinzenhof in Delft, the Netherlands, though with a lower ceiling.
It's always amazing to me how long it took to get to a contained stove.
