As Phil Collins once said, "I'm a drummer that can sing a little". He's a legend now and forever.

Also, everyone in the audience KNEW what was coming… such a legendary performance!

One of the greatest drummers of all time!
Fun fact: Phil Collins is playing a left handed drum kit: snare drum to the right and toms to the left.
The bass player, Leland Sklar, is a legend in his own right, not just because of his amazing beard... he has played on more than 2000 albums in his career, almost 80 years old now and with his own YouTube channel!

The drum solo in this song is timed this so perfectly. It is sad to see the health of such a legend for Mr. absolute living legend.

When Genesis had their lead singer quit, Phil was just the drummer.
His band mates convinced him to sing lead after several auditions for new singers didn’t pan out.
Phil sang to teach the tryouts the songs, and the band concluded he sang better than all of new recruits !!! He was their lead singer from then on.

Wow! I hit the play button so hard I broke my finger. Phil Collins is one of my great heroes since back in the days. Thank you.❤

This song is about him confronting his ex wife about her cheating on him, its crazy how you can see this song means so much to him emotionally

He is one of only three recording artists, along with Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson, who have sold over 100 million records both as solo artists and separately as principal members of a band.

That's why he produced this song -- for an emotional release.
From what I understand Phil Collins was walking along the Thames River, and there was this a person drowning, and this other guy was laughing at him. I don't know how young Phil was at the time, but it's must have been horrifying, and left and emotional scar on his heart.

I'd say his voice and presence is "compelling". Amazing song - there's a Miami Vice episode that features this song heavily, and it creates a very powerful scene. That show had a ton of good music, and their color pallet was unique. You can tell Phil really gets into the lyrics. He's living this story in his head as he sings.

Ok this track was approx 2/3 of the way into the concert. He had to leave the stage to be fitted with the mic/ headset, hence the extended intro with each instrument introducing itself. Phil wrote the music and lyrics, he is one of only three artists that have sold over 100 million albums as a member of a band and another 100 million plus albums as a solo artist. The song was written about his very painful divorce, he returned from touring early to discover his wife was being unfaithful. They never saw him he just left.
He describes himself as a drummer that can sing a bit. Oh he also plays keyboards. He is also the only person that performed at BOTH live aid concerts, first at Wembley in London then catching Concorde to perform at the Philadelphia Concert. You really should check out some Genesis tracks and his solo stuff. You won’t be disappointed. Sadly Phil can no longer play the drums due to an injury but his son is almost indistinguishable. And like Pink Floyd his concert sound quality is absolutely first class hardly distinguishable from studio.

I'm a simple man:

---I see a beautiful girl reacting to my favorite musician, I click.
---I see a beautiful girl enjoying the performance from my favorite musician, I like.
---I see a beautiful girl thoroughly converted by the talents of Mr. Phil Collins and an eagerness to listen to more of him and his work, I subscribe!

So glad you like, Stacey and I'm so glad I clicked on! In addition to his solo work, don't forget to check out his work as a member of the rock band Genesis. Its a rich rabbit hole worth investigating!

Great reaction...and beautiful eyes! lol

Probably the most recognizable drum break in the world. The legendary Phil Collins has retired due to deteriorating health, his son has taken over he drums, but fortunately we can enjoy Phils genius for generations to come...

Phil Collins was HUGE in the 80's. He had many great songs: Against All Odds, Don't Let Him Steal Your Heart Away, and many many others. Look into his solo albums and you will be pleasantly surprised!

Welcome to the world of Genesis. This is your entrance to the Genesis universe - Phil, Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford (Mike & The Mechanics), Tony Banks and Steve Hackett. Phil Collins is one of 3 musicians ever who have sold more than 100 million albums both individually and as a member of a group (Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson are the other two). Phil was really one of the BIG stars of Live Aid in 1985. He performed in London by himself- and with Sting. He left on a helicopter got on The Concord, and flew to Philadelphia. He performed solo again in Philly, then drummed with Eric Clapton and with Led Zeppelin. You have just taken the first step into a new world. Check out Peter Gabriel live with “In Your Eyes, ” the Genesis Live at Wembly with “Abacab.” Welcome to the club!!

Now you kids know how awesome our music was back in the 70’s!

It speaks volumes that you don't even notice that it's almost 10 minutes into the song before there's much percussion to speak of except for the hand-drumming in the background--until his drum kit appears and you hear that iconic drum fill. It set the standard for the rock drum sound for everyone else to follow.

Phil was one of the most kick-ass prog and rock drummers, and in my top 5 for influences. Watch him playing live while not singing, something like Los Endos, In the Cage (with medley), Abacab (starts with vocals, then Phil sits down for some stunt drumming) or any of the drum duets he did with Chester Thompson. Phil was an incredible showman, too. I was blessed to see him twice on the Mama tour, while he was at his peak in the 80s. God bless Phil, always.

Phil is a consummate musician and song writer! He had an amazing solo career, from 1980 onwards, but he was also the drummer and singer for the legendary Prog/Classic Rock band called Genesis. Have you not heard of Genesis? They were huge in the 70s and 80s. Phil is considered one of the best Rock and Fusion drummers of all time. He's right up there with John Bonham, Neil Peart, and Carl Palmer, among other elite players. But he's also written tons of great Rock, Pop, and Ballad songs. Boy, does this guy know how to write a "tear-your-heart-out" ballad. Ugh, kills me! So, please, by all means, get to know more Phil Collins, Genesis, and...if you are feeling adventurous, check out Phil's Fusion band called Brand X! Oh, and he's also got a Big Band album out there too! He's amazing! A Genesis song you should check out could be "Squonk" from 1976, or "The Lady Lies" from 1978, or "Mama" from 1983. Watching Live videos will really be fun, if you can do that. Another Phil solo song you should check out is called "I Don't Care Anymore" (from 1983). The last thing I'll say is that this foray into Genesis will also expose you to another amazing, world-famous singer, Peter Gabriel. He was the singer with Genesis before he left in 1975 (from 1967 - 1975). You really have opened a wider world of music and culture Stacey! Enjoy!

Having witnessed this astonishing moment live way back in 1986, I just had to tune in to watch your reaction also. Phil is a true master of his craft. All of them.
