In Australia back in 2019 my grandson was in a car accident, he was air lifted by chopper to the major hospital he spent 2 wks in a coma, had multiple compound fractures which required multiple surgeries, then after he left the ICU, he spent another 5 wks in a rehab ward for physio. After his discharge he had to go the an acquired brain injury clinic for more rehab. All of it was covered under our Medicare system, my grandson was not out of pocket despite the enormous expenses involved. I cannot understand Americas health system at all. If anything needs urgent treatment it is your health system. So sad for so many..

David, your plea for Democrats to go to Iowa is MOST appreciated! Out here in red state Indiana (once also purplish, believe it or not), we are dying for some outside help. Don't get me wrong -- I'm an organizer and am doing what I can. But it sucks to be written off by the outside world. It really does feel like being in the middle of a blazing grass fire, as you described.

My whole family is from Iowa. I spent my first 21 years there. We were all Democrats. I was 8 when Carter was elected. My mother campaigned for him heavily. I have no idea what is going on there now! We were not raised hateful, we helped others and I can't imagine ever thinking like Maya in Iowa.

As to why or how Iowa used to be a blue state (you know, the good old days). And how a popular republican governor can now run that state, it’s the same old story. Bad education. Kimmel did a segment recently where passersby on Hollywood Blvd. were shown a map, given a pointer, & asked to find Iowa on a map of the USA. Not one could find it. Now I didn’t go to college & am a product of the peace & love generation, offspring of WW2 vets, but I can identify every state on a map & damn near every country of our world. When did education fail these people? This country? Was it all Reagan in origin or are we really that lazy? Until education is improved & yes, Virginia, that do take an organized government, I fear for us, and the low information voters who have no idea of the privilege they seem to be too thick, as they say in England, to appreciate. There are still some of us who are connected to reality & I’m counting on us not to let rats back into the White House. Biden’s age doesn’t bother me. Fascism does. 💙🇺🇸💙
