"Django Unchained" is Quentin Tarantino's bold and stylized Western masterpiece set in the pre-Civil War South. The film follows Django, a freed slave, who teams up with a German bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz. Together, they embark on a dangerous mission to rescue Django's wife from a sadistic plantation owner. The narrative unfolds as they navigate the brutal landscape of the slave trade, seeking justice and revenge against those who perpetrate cruelty and oppression.

Its called "learned helplesness" today and it explains the psychology behind this scene. Beyond that, maybe some kind of power hierarchy for being above the other slaves to explain why he felt above them.

That’s nice Leo, but your line was “Please pass the salt”

Leo: “Lemme prove how racist I am with this pseudo-science demonstration”

Love it 😂

The same man who played an autistic boy in Gilbert Grape plays a cruel slave owner in Django Unchained. DiCaprio is really a great actor, playing such a convincing sadistic mean crackpot, it's easy to see why the Doctor lost it and shot him rather than shake his hand.

I think what Calvin misunderstood here is that old Ben valued his life more than the death of his “masters”

“Why don’t they kill us?”
Old Ben: “💀”

What’s real funny is this theory was debunked like 10 years before this movie takes place

There was an experiment where dogs were put in an enclosure with a short wall and one side was electrified. The dogs always stayed on the safe side. When both sides were electrified the dogs eventually became helpless and wouldn't even try to leave the cage. This idea of learned helplessness is explained later in the movie by Candie and shown by the 'hotbox'. The concept of learned helplessness was also used by the CIA in getting approval for torture programs (or "enhanced interrogation procedures").

The acting level in this entire movie is top notch for everybody's part in it. Quentin Tarantino captured their best from everybody in this flick .

I love that they try and make a science so they could make a excuse for slavery

Sometimes, an actor/actress will hit it just right. I got King Joffre Lanister vibes
