I have been playing for a long time and just barely figured out how to increase my expertise, which in turn allows me to level up my gear and weapons.
I wish i had known the ins and outs a long time ago because i was deconstructing items and not donating them. I would have had a much higher expertise level if it had been made more clear from the start. I mostley blame the devs because their in game tutorial is extremely lacking in detail. The grind to level up your expertise is arduous and a time suck.
But the felt rewards are enormous when playing and seeing how much damage you can take and deal out.

To answer your intro question: Is expertize worth it? Yes, for some of your favorite items. Many are under the impression that it is necessary to finalize your build. That is absolutely not the case. Your build is gonna perform just fine without it. Xpertize is just the cherry on top. If your setup doesn't work without it, then it is not gonna work with it either. Just, have, fun! Enjoy!

You missed one of the best tricks for fast leveling: Everytime you do a mission and get loot, look at what loot you have the most of, or go to an area that has specific loot like smgs or backpacks etc. As you click "V" to set them as trash for donation, then click tinker and expertise when not in combat. using the arrow keys click around to you get on the main heading of smgs, or backpacks, or named gear sets etc... use the donate all towards that catagory of items and it will raise several at the same time. It is very satisfactory to see your expertise level of 200 (To get to the next level, you have to upgrade items 200 times EACH level.) go up like 10-15 at once, after every misision, and seems to raise your over all expertise, so much faster. Anything not used towards the upgrade, you then destroy as materials, for when you do get a new level, you have plenty left over to raise each and every weapon to the new expertise level. (And sometimes the skills will get a few leveled.) Using all trash items each time, seems soooo much faster, than just buying named items and only updating one item to proficient. (Hopefully i explained that, where its understood. It was taking forever to level each expertise level to 200 without buying named items, then i found this method and now jumped from 3 to 13 trying to catch your 18 :-) ) Hope that helps someone.

Sick video unlike other D2 channels that just talk about the same shit. This was very helpful for a returning player.

I've seen the video but I didn't get how to level the OVERALL expertise, not the individual item one.

I've basically been raising mine by focusing on brand sets and skills but yeah. Put as much of a certain brand on ur character and go run countdown. You'll gain proficiency in 2 or 3 rounds

I'm so confused just got back in this game and I am lost. I had old exotic weapons level 26 now guns are level 40 I dont know what I need to level them up. Or do I have to try to farm them again. I'm lost

Expertise for gear items is useful if you are running a build with only weapon damage or only skill tier. Up to level 12 it only costs you material, but no exo components. With all six parts at level 12, you get about half an armor core. In PvE, this is a big advantage in terms of survivability.

so to donate items do they have to be level 10 to donate? Sometimes i try to donate and it wont accept it? Is it because its not 10 or does it need to be below 10? Sorry for a dumb question

Great video, not a fan of longer videos but at least it was informative and I didn’t feel there was unnecessary chatter

Logged in today, didn't know what I was doing and pretty much donated all my resources to making my drone proficient, rip resources.
