As creative writers, we all LOVE those writing days where time seems to fly past without us even noticing. We are just SO wrapped up in our beautiful little world - we could do this FOREVER. You know what I'm talking about. Call it "writer's high" being "in flow" or finding that state of perfect focus, we all want to access this place on demand: but how do we do that? How do we get into the writing mood quickly and when we actually need to be writing our manuscripts? Good news... you don't have to wait for the muse! Abbie and I are delving into some very specific creative writing rituals and methods to get you into a clear, focused, writing mood... and smash those words. Let's get into this!

The part about guilt being a mind-block is so right, I've spent my whole life mentally berating myself for not achieving my goals, and it's only ever made things worse.

Escaping to my other worlds of my stories is what I live for and it’s been part of me my entire life, so it’s hard for me to understand how non-writers keep their minds occupied lol! Even when i watch movies or read books my worlds and characters are part of my thoughts. My husband does not understand at all 😂 So great to hear other writers feel the same👍🏻

"Kickstart the chemistry" ought to be an official quote or song lyric or something. That described the sensation that occurs when consuming some form of media that vividly sparks your own story's world SO perfectly! (Plus it sounds cool lol). I experience this all the time and I end up starting a lot of my stories like that.

I’ve never heard of people watching movies like that to get in the writing mood; that’s so cool!

I found out recently that I have a rare autoimmune disorder that almost completely shut down my kidneys and put scar tissue in multiple other organs including my brain. I'm now on a new life-appreciation journey now that we are treating it and I'm going into remission and I'm prioritizing my writing more. I don't know if I will ever publish or just print books for close friends but writing and world building brings me joy and calm and is the one thing I 100% do just for me that others have fun with too, so I plan on prioritizing it in my self-care so having a pre-routine is a great idea to help with that.

Give yourself permission to let other things go; they will still be there and that's fine. :) Easier said than done... but it is possible if we let it. We have to choose it. Harder with ADHD... but... it's possible if we motive ourselves in the right way.

Thank you so much for the podcast!! Super helpful and inspiring!!!

Also can I ask what your MBTI type is, Kate? I know Abbie's an INFJ, and I was just thinking about how I relate with your personalities, so I was curious. 😄
