Great video! Love these tips on ways of improving cooking while in the outdoors. I’ll be sure to try out this new recipe with carrots, peppers, rice, and Indian spices next time on the trail! Also, glad to see your positive feedback that the Near Zero Mini stove matched up so well in performance to the classic MSR. Both great reliable backpacking stoves! 🙌

I love this channel .. I'm no longer looking at 9 or 10 + dollars for meals in a bag .

Just found this video because i was gifted a Near Zero stove by a friend and thought I'd watch a few videos on it. I think you absolutely nailed it on your review. I have enough gear that I'm going to build a full cookset with it now. And that curry rice soup is absolutely going into rotation!

Nice stoves, both of them and trail tested by lots of hikers. My choice is with a wider flame base, not the narrower ones centering all of the heat in the center of the pot. I like wider pots and even small frying pans, both in titanium when hiking. You have to cook cooler ( slower with a lower flame) with titanium. Car camping, Cast iron, is the favorite with a Coleman Stove.
Yes, I also have a Pocket Rocket in my arsenal.

Chef Corso thanks for another informative cooking video ... I'm going to give this recipe a try in the near future ... I saw the knife that you used had the Outdoor Eats logo on it ... What brand/model knife is it and where can we learn more about it?

And ... FYI ... The links you provided are both for the MSR Pocket rocket stove ...

BRS 3000T stove costs under $20 and weighs less than the $60 MSR NearZero. If the MSR stove was made in the US, I might be willing to shell out the extra cash for it, but they are both imports. I guess a South Korean import is better than a Chinese import...?

I tend to prefer a pot that’s wider for versatility. I own two Pocket Rockets (1st edition) and really like them, no need for me to change at this point.

Agree those backpacking meals are atrocious in my opinion. Specially when you can bring your own spices, heck even top ramen, discard the “condiment” packet (at home, not the forest) and make your own tasty noodles with your own spices, vegetables or whatever, stir fry them in your mess kit, just get creative.

Most of those expensive pouch meals are loaded with super cheap fillers and salt but cost a LOT. Terrible for human bodies. Especially when exerting or at my tender 70).
Cooking meals requires careful planning----especially when longer distances, vegan, or relying only on cooked food, but can be done. Hiked the entire Colorado Trail cooking my own chow and the chow for my TWO rescue mutts with the MSR Pocket Rocket cook kit and did "better" than hike mates only relying on those pouches, which DO require hot water. Yeah, it took some time. If you are gonna assemble cook stuff anyway, why not make yer own food? Discovered I can better regulate salts, sugars, dyes, flavors, and gnarly preservatives both better tasting and vastly cheaper. Start out easy, experiment. Find bullet proof recipes and have fun-; your body will thank you. Corso's videos and recipes help and useful assets for ingredients.
