That ending montage was a final goodbye to the 20th Century Fox X-Men franchise.

The meta joke with Channing Tatum playing Gambit is that there was a Gambit movie in development at 20th Century Fox for the longest time, with Channing set to star as the character. They even brought him out on stage at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con to announce his casting, but the movie got stuck in development hell for years and was eventually cancelled when Disney bought 20th Century Fox.

Channing played a big part in the movie's development, as playing Gambit was a dream of his, but because of the movie's eventual cancellation he never got the chance, until now.

I love this movie. I'm a 42 year old man. I grew up watching the Fox universe form. I was in the theatre for Electra, Blade, Punisher, X-Men, all of em. This movie honors that journey. It gives us a payoff over 25 years in the making. Some people may have a gripe about Deadpool breaking the 4th wall being a cheap writing tool, but Ryan Reynolds uses his power for good in this case. Not only does he honor the comics by actually including as much legendary comic imagery for Wolverine as he does (the suit, the variants) and all the Deadpool variants, but by breaking the 4th wall he honors the behind the scenes journey us fans have taken with them. He points out beef between him and Snipes. Beef between Affleck and Garner. The hope of Tatum to play Gambit. The way studios have mistreated Cavill. The way Fox dropped the ball on their franchises. The way Marvel has been in a slump. The way fans feel about the upcoming Blade movie. But most of all, the way that fans have been dying to see a classic comic book wolverine since they started making these movies. There are literally too many nods to list. Sure, there is a hand in your face jangling keys, but below it, the other hand is reaching for a handshake to say thank you to us. It reaches a level of intricate decades long fan service that may never be duplicated. And it does it in a way that honors the viewpoint of fans rather than ridiculing them. This movie shows us that despite all the Hollywood bullshit out there, there's a few people on the inside that have taken this lifelong journey with us. It shows us there are still a few people making these movies that CARE...about US. It gives me hope that maybe the best isn't behind us. Thank you Ryan, Hugh, Cavill, Garner, Snipes, Tatum, Dafne and everyone else who still believes in the power of comic books and good stories. Let's fuckin go!

The use of N-Sync is twofold... 1} The music video for Celine Dion's Ashes, the theme for Deadpool 2, Deadpool asks her to take it down a notch, grumbling that he "should have asked N-Sync". And even funnier, 2} In X-Men 2, when escaping the Mansion, Wolverine, Pyro, Rogue and Iceman are in Cyclops' car, and Pyro turns on the radio, which plays Bye Bye Bye. Wolverine switches it off in disgust. So, Deadpool is dancing on Wolverine's grave to a song he knows that he despised!

The end credit montage was the most beautiful and nostalgic thing I've ever seen

"You were the best Wolverine" was clearly Ryan Reynolds speaking for the fans in that moment. As Hugh Jackman mentions in the post credit montage, not many people knew who he was going into that first 'X-Men' movie and indeed were asking "can he deliver?"

Boy did he ever.

"Why does it feel like its over?" Because a big part of this film is a love letter to the Fox X-Men universe. It is done, and it managed to give a nod to the films that paved the way for comic book movies to even have an expanded universe. Blade was a comic book R rated movie long before they were even a thing, and so on. The characters they honoured were the ones that walked so Marvel could run.

“Do you know what he was doing to the budget” made me cackle shamelessly in the theater lol

Gambits accent is Cajun and it’s actually not bad. Channing Tatum was supposed to play Gambit but it never worked out, so he plays him in this movie, and Gambit is Cajun. It’s basically southern and French accent combined, from Louisiana. I know it sounds weird but he did a good job with it, that’s how it really sounds.

Hurts my feelings that y’all don’t know Blade. He is the reason why the MCU is alive. Wesley Snipes is the reason why Marvel didn’t go completely bankrupt.

Elektra not giving a single crap Daredevil died was low-key hilarious 😂😂😂. Ben Affleck (Daredevil) is Jennifer Garner's ex-husband for the few who dont know. EDIT: *Great catch, Cassie!!!*

Channing Tatum, as a comic accurate Gambit, including full-on Cajun accent, totally makes this movie for me.

The interesting thing about the end was that it was the movie's theme in action. Matter and Anti-matter. Logan mattered too much and he buckled under the pressure. Wade didn't matter at all and his life was empty because of it. But together, Logan had someone to lean on and Wade had someone to give him purpose. Matter and Anti-matter...together, saved the whole timeline.

It's so funny that the two most crazy cameos were the ones you didn't know. When Blade came out in the cinema the sound just exploded, everyone was so surprised. I bet a lot of comments have explained this already but yeah, his films were the first to start what X-men could take over and what evolved into the MCU and comic book movies of today. And Channing Tatum were going to be Gambit back when X-Men Origins Wolverine was made. He even came out at Comic Con to announce it on stage, and then it never happened.

It's said that Chris Evans only agreed to be in this if he could be Johnny and he could swear up a storm because it would be a subversion of Captain America's "Language" that usually comes out of his mouth. He loved it so much he was in.

It hurts beyond comprehension that they don't know who Blade is

My daughter and niece (both 14) didnt know who Elektra and Blade were, but yelled *"Its Magic Mike!!"* when Gambit appeared. My brother almost had an aneurysm. 😂
EDIT: If you honestly think high school age kids (freshman and sophomore in this case) don't know about R-rated movies, you are 100% in denial. They have friends and technology to fill them in.

Note Wolverine never called Deadpool a liar with the Johnny situation, he just said he got him killed.

Also, according to the director, Henry Cavill said yes to playing an alternate Wolverine with zero hesitation. You can tell he's having a blast. The best cameo along with Gambit and of course Wesley Snipes as Blade.

I can assure you, Deadpool and Wolverine fighting eachother is 100% helping. It’s therapeutic release

Ironically, Channing Tatum's Cajun accent is absolutely spot on.
