I should add that this song became basically the second Soviet anthem between 1941 and 1945. To this day, when it is performed, it is customary that the audience stands up.

13 million civilians and 14 million soldiers of the Soviet Union died so that we could now safely listen to this song. Greetings to the whole world from Minsk.

"Hatred of the invading enemy is the most sacred and humane feeling. But it is born with such a pain of heart and torment of the soul that God forbid anyone to experience it a second time."

This song is so powerful that it fill me with hatred for an enemy i have never seen. Love for the homeland that I wasn't born in. And rage for the tragedy i have never witnessed.

For Russians and former Soviet people, this is a song of victory and fortitude and courage.

I'll give that to the Russians, they sure know how to boost the morale of their soldiers.

i find it extraordinary that this masterpiece, which even to me gives chills and i'm not even Russian (but close lol), was written TWO DAYS after the surprise invasion, and performed 2 days after being written, in the Belorussky Railway Station. talk about talent!
