Even when he rejects her, he tries not to hurt her by saying it's because she is a child. He wants ro prepare her for life and so part of that is to treat her like she is a grown up, but he still needs to somehow maintain the innocent relationship dynamic.

Idk why people are commenting paragraphs when their relationship is simple. He sees her as a daughter she thinks she’s in love with him

Actually a very beautiful scene. Matilda does not know what she is saying and is simply acting out what she has read and seen at home. She thinks its what girls are supposed to do. Leon, I believe, rejects her because she is a child but also because he has a broken heart. Great acting by both, although their tears suddenly disappear in the final shots.

"Nothing can stop love, Leon."
"He killed her. One shot to the head."

That's how you write dialogue.

It’s crazy because this movie is based off of the directors marriage with his first wife, he was 32 she was 15, had their first child by 16. He admits that this movie was supposed to portray his real life marriage in a way

She wants so badly to be a grown up, she’s 12 so she is at a stage where she is hitting puberty and her hormones are wild and foreign to her. Also based off the environment she grew up in has twisted her frame of mind to think she could actually be with an adult man, also since she never have a true father figure and Leon is a hitman and nice to her she was infatuated with him and looked up to him. With all of that made her act out to try and seduce him but he rejects because she’s a child obviously but also because his heart is broken from a past love he had. He loves Matilda but as a daughter. Nothing more he’s just awkward because he’s not used to taking care of someone of being in that form of love. He also seems unaware of how weird it is as well, Leon isn’t that smart so I think the weirdness of it all flys past him to a degree and she’s too young to really understand.

He rejects her advances, but the tension is evident in his expression. We could say that Léon is stuck between childhood and adult male. He is seen removing himself from adulthood when he regresses back to a childlike state of mind. He is alienated from the possible complexities of relationships. Its boundary-pushing plot is challenging.

In the cut scenes of this movie made it so much better. I understand movies in the 90s weren’t as long. This movie was incredible. Start to finish.

I'm so pissed off they didn't keep this in the main version. It's his goddamned back story ffs.

"You see Matilda, I won't be a good lover."
It appears to me that his answer remains the possibility of multiple interpretations depends on a person's perception.
I am just saying.

One of the most intense scenes of the film. Especially when it comes to the bond they built up on each other, with him truly caring for her, as a father figure, and the amount of respect he had for her. Like Jean Reno really nailed his role, he's literally so underrated. One of the most underrated actors of all time, an actor that honestly deserves to be considered one of the greatest actors of all time, especially with his amazing performance in Leon which was just so heartfelt, intense, emotional and really lives up to it. Like its literally so touching, especially the duo they've been, and how much they've learned from each other, had an impact on each other, and how he finally learned to read because of her with him even buying her a gift with the money he asked Tony for, which was the first time he's ever gotten something for someone and had actual meaning in his life for once after all those years. Just pure heart, showing how much he cared for her & how much she meant to him because now he has something to loose for, care for & etc - without his life always being meaningless like he said, as well as dark, she was the light. Like what a film, with honestly so much to say. A film with such strong emotions that it moves you, it changes you, it touches your heart so much, and really gives you so many meanings about life and how its seen as well. Especially with the duo they were, the bond they had, and the build-up they had on each other like I can just keep repeating it. The motivation, meanings to one anothers life. One of the greatest movies of all time. Truly legendary, iconic, emotionally intense, heartfelt, and much more with soundtracks that are honestly so heartfelt as if it just pierces your heart, like it touches you so much. A film that is unforgettable, and will always have a special place in my heart. It honestly just means so much. Never forgotten, and always remembered. One of my favorite films, and one that is better felt, than explained with so much to keep on saying. Truly endless.

For Americans this scene is inappropriate, for Europeans this is simple confusión that happens in some pre teens boy or girl.

This scene is obviously confusing but leon never in a movie acted like a perv. The point is that director exploited natalie sexually to some extent and I it affected her life. Look that she never watched this movie since premiere and feels embarrased about it. Well I hope what we seen is a reason and not some trauma behind scene..you never know with creepy hollywood. Girls are abused and molested and my hope is that it didnt happen to natalie

The girl was made for this film, beside the controversy, Natalie is a beast on it.
