Is SnowRunner a Simulator?

If this game was 100% realistic then
1. I'd never run out of fuel the fuel station would before my vehicles do
2. You could drive fast or rather efficiently without receiving tonnes of damage
3. I could manually select gears and add a variety of transmissions to better help my vehicles and saying that
4. I would keep upgrading my vehicles constantly hence I use modded versions of the trucks I have as it actually makes more realistic sense to
5. The winch would have at least 50m length on it and only the power of the motor would be the factor as most winches nowadays to my knowledge have backup supplies in case the engine stalls
6. The cranes would actually be able to lift 💩 and not be so pitiful now and then! I get it the large pipe is large but it's not that heavy lol and
7. The suspension and frame would flex and fit the profile of the ground more so I don't tip over as much from a rigid frame.

Is Snowrunner perfect? No! Does it need to be? NO! It's just a game in the end

If they made the game realistic it would be so difficult no one would want to play it. Having the video game mechanics makes that game fun to play.

to make things clearer. Snowrunner is a dynamic terrain simulation (and i guess physics simulation as well) which also adds trucking and logistics on top to further highlight the terrain simulation, in exchange for lack of simulated vehicular complexity. This is similar to BeamNG's case where they are secondarily showcasing vehicles and driving, but the main course of the game is the vehicle damage simulation and vehicular physics.

When I think if truck sims, I think Euro Truck Simulator. I don't think SR has enough depth in it to be considered a true sim. It strikes a very good hybrid balance of an arcade driving game that's trends more toward simulation but does things that most other sims or arcade drivers don't.

because it doesen't feel a full trucking game like Ats or ets

Personally, I would say Snowrunner is along the lines of the Forza Horizon series; not quite simulation like Forza MotorSport but not arcade gameplay like Need for Speed. If they tightened up on some simulation elements of Snowrunner, then I would call it a simulation game. I believe that's possible and for it to still be enjoyable, but I doubt it'll happen. Regardless, I'm perfectly fine with this hybrid simulation game as I call it.

My definition of a simulator is based on the gaming industries definition, which is essentially a matter of, not whether or not it is entirely realistic, but whether it is trying to simulate something or not, which is ultimately dictated by the developer. This game is indeed attempting to simulate trucking in mud and snow, therefore it accurately can be called a simulation. How well it simulates something is entirely besides the point of whether it is classified as a simulation or not.

One of the most popular games of it's day was the original Simcity, and second to being classified as a game, it was very much classified, and thought of, as a simulation. How realistic was it? It wasn't at all realistic. And yet it was used in classrooms for educational purposes because it was a simulation. Perhaps the best simulation there was in it's day despite how terribly unrealistic it was.
