I don’t think he’s dead. I got the vibe that Roy and cap have been out looking for him over the last year of the time jump. Would explain how he gets his lucario and meets new people along the way. I think he will return at some point. Plus Charizard blew away with him, thought it was kinda shitty he chose to chuck pika but didn’t even try to help Charizard 😂
