The Hidden Costs of Poor Nutrition on America’s Economy and Health | Dr. Mark Hyman

I had the privilege of testifying before the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee Hearing: Investing in a Healthy America: Chronic Disease Prevention & Treatment.

Chronic disease is an epidemic that burdens our healthcare system and devastates millions of lives. It's responsible for skyrocketing healthcare costs and preventable suffering, but there is a better way. At this hearing, I had the opportunity to share how we can shift from a system that treats symptoms to one that prevents disease at its root. By focusing on food as medicine, lifestyle changes, and addressing environmental factors, we can not only reduce the burden of chronic disease but also help Americans live longer, healthier lives.

This testimony highlights the transformative changes needed to rebuild our healthcare system—centering on prevention, innovation, and holistic treatment. Together, we can create a future where health, not sickness, is the foundation of our care system.

I think it would be a great idea to discuss regenerative organic farming, as well, with the government, since our food is so depleted of nutrients and was grown covered in pesticides. I think high salt, high sugar, seed oil rich, artificial color, flavor, preservative laden, highly processed foods should be taxed at a rate of 10 times that of healthy food to pay for the medical costs of those who choose to eat that garbage.

All the information out there proving that these companies are intentionally creating addicts, they should be stopped and punished.
