I put a CB readio set up on my mountain bike back in the mid to late 1990s. I used a 12volt 12AH Power Wheels SLA battery to run the radio. I used a 102 inch stainless steel whip for the antenna. It was a pretty good setup. Even shot some skip with it when the conditions were good. I had the antenna mounted on the rear bike rack.

I used mine on a 3 5" magnet mount with a wolf river coil used a 11 meter fire stick and its wide banded on 6m mobile. Tunes nice.

A trick that the screwdriver manufacturers borrowed from old timers is to put a mast of some length ahead of the coil. The idea is that instead of putting a huge lump of inductance right at the feed point, the signal is able to radiate a bit lowering the radiation resistance. You also see this on the Hustler mobile antennas where they have a mast before any of the coils attach followed by a whip. They work great but are challenging on a mobile. Don't ask me how I know...

The WRC can do the same thing just by putting a mast under the coil. No magic or "dark arts", just science. You may even be able to leave the coil tapped at one spot and tune [most] everything with the internal tuner!

I’m very impressed by the Wolf River coil and with a quick glance at an analyzer you can sweep each band and make markings and it’s right there on the nose with the same radials and a decent ground.

Nice setup! Do 2 7ah lithiums as main back up at home now, mil. Injury issues keeps me out of parks for a while, .but at 5w on ARES VHF and 5 to 20 W on HF SSB and CW they do well here in wcFl hurricane land. Portable solar and a 30 AH new car b/u and chargers plus old mil surplus ant like yours but not as nice. A portable Windom, rope and fish weights and a sling shot completes package. POTA or just picnic on air are great fun. Nice help to HOA hams as well. 7 ah at 5 watts to outside vert lasted thru 1.5 days and the other one was all set. If no sun cand use car: 7ah charges quick. Some roll up radials for 40 and 20m will help a lot. Not to mention ground rod with bent section or welded handle for extraction, plus in line arrester will make you safer if sneak storm comes. 73 wa2kbz ( ret SC CW and reg USAF, hope to work you from FL. When healed, QRV from local parks too!).

If anyone is willing or needing this, God is so good, I pray if you haven't made Him your Lord and Saviour you choose to do that today. Romans 10:9 says "If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord, ” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."
