I can't imagine what benefits web based exams would have. Although there are certain advantages to it. It saves the teacher time from grading the tests because they can be graded by the online site, although there are many concerns such as students using the internet to cheat and the internet is often unreliable. One thing I do find positive about this is that even if the students look up the answer atleast then they find the correct answer and learn from it.

The internet is a very useful source of information. For students to be able to use them on exams would mean students can increase their efficiency when it comes to researching and looking up information. The main issue that arises is the fact that the integrity is questioned because this makes it easy for students to cheat.

web-based exams is ideally something that sounds like it works, but the thing is that there will always be people who abuse the system and do things such as cheating which will ruin the whole purpose and take away the convenience of using the system.

While I do agree that web based exams do not work very well because of how much they can be exploited, this is largely due to the way the modern education is, largely based off of teaching practices that are often rooted in those we used hundreds of years ago. Since schools first started to be focused on around a couple hundred years ago, the focus was based around learning facts. However, there is a growing movement to reform the educational system to be less about learning facts and more about teaching critical thinking and problem solving skills. In an educational system based of this idea, web based exams seem like a natural fit.

Although research abilities are extremely important in the real world, it takes away from the purpose of an exam which is to test your knowledge. With these web based exams, you just need to be good at research to find your answers. You dont really have to know much, just be able to add some analysis.

I think that web-based exams are not a very good idea for the most part. Some students, if able to use the internet during their exam, will simply not bother to learn or study the material and try to pass using only the internet. This will increase people's dependance on the internet. However, I can think of many times that I had known the material pretty well but had forgotten a small detail or two that made me unable to answer a problem.

My personal experience with web based exams reveals the many flaws with the system. First off, kids have a very easy access to the internet that is fairly hard to resist; this leads to issues of future cheating and poor education. Second off, the computer can only be so effective in teaching certain subjects; if a teacher tried to educate students on graphing and than tested them on it they would have to use either an expensive touch pad input device or go back to pen and paper.

I don't necessarily think that these types of exams would benefit the student. Although the internet is an incredibly helpful tool for education, allowing the use of this tool on exams would mean that the student would not gain the knowledge in a way that they would if they actually had to learn it. This would end up dumbing down the education system.
