Difference Between Project Managers and Site Managers:

You may not know the difference between these two terms that we use in the construction industry. It's a subtle difference but by understanding it you'll know at what level you are working and at what level you are pitching your skills.

In the construction industry, the site manager is the person who manages the progress of works on site. They are going to be on site every single day and making sure the right tradesmen are working in the right areas at any given time, interfacing the work between different trades and dealing with day to day issues that come up on site as the works go on.

They are also responsible for ordering materials, ensuring the site is kept clear, and generally managing the site on a day to day basis. They might not necessarily be permanently employed, but could possibly be a foreman or a lead tradesman who is there nearly every day to make sure everything happens.

On the other hand, a project manager is the person who manages the project from a higher level. They are looking at the bigger picture, for example managing the involvement of architects to produce drawings, putting together a specification or a schedule of work, as well as budgets and timelines and managing the outsourced items like kitchen design.

Your skills and experience as a property investor means you are best suited to the project manager's role - the site manager's role should always be delegated, to avoid your time being consumed by trivial issues on a day to day basis. The money you would have saved by doing this yourself will absolutely not be worth the time it takes away from you.
