Similar disease is happening to the Scotch Pine. Thousands of them were planted in the city I live in, and so many have died, and in astonishingly short time frames; in the spring or early summer you can see the very beginnings of the tip die back, and by the end of summer, autumn at the latest, the pine is completely dead. Totally. There's several vectors at work. No cure is currently available. The manmade changes in our climate is definitely a big player. Fungus' that weren't common in one zone are now at home there changing the native biosphere as it proceeds. The sadness and grief David Nash talks about is the sadness Glenn Albrecht calls "solastagia", the grief felt in a changing planetary environment, that is largely, now, out of our hands. I'm sad that his ash dome will not persist much longer.
