I Don't Need PHP To Be Cool

I wanna talk about the wave of tweets that PHP is cool again, and why it is wrong, in my opinion.

I have been working with Laravel for at least 10 years now, I'm glad Laravel is still the cool guy on the block. That means I can probably work another 10 years with it.

💯 I started learning PHP because it was what I had easy access to. Have had plenty of opportunity to learn something else “cooler” and move on, but PHP has always done more or less what I need. Whilst it’s great to see more people realise how accessible the language is, I really couldn’t care on its coolness factor, it’s always put food on my table and diesel in my car so to me, it’s pretty damn cool.

I still INSIST on using a mouse and keyboard with a CABLE, even though I travel fairly often - that keeps my head far cooler than when I can't find the tiny receiver things or I lose power because I forgot to switch them off, it's a surprisingly common debate when I visit places for the first time..

Sorry but I have to get it out of my chest though. Laravel is way cooler than Symfony for me 😅 (have been using Symfony for years, started working with Laravel 2 months ago and i feel i missed a ton, this may clarify my comment 😂)

Hi Povilas, I think it’s a human behavior specially at some ages. I love developing and also photography, photographers talk too much about cameras and gear and few about composition, colors etc. With time you realize what is really important in each matter (Or not if you die immature).

Its not about coolness its about what does the job which needs to be done the best. You can go with different technologies, it depends on what you trying to achieve. I also don't understand people who hating on different languages. Or people looking down on communities. To me it's so dumb. Like Earl Nightingale once said in his talk: Jobs have no future, people do

More and more dev influencers are mentioning Laravel as great framework. I tink thats good for us because some customers prefer having their apps build with the more popular o cool stack.

Results are what matters, only nerds care about the technology behind apps.
