The five rich people who went missing on the submersible to see the titanic are believed to be dead.

The company operating the vessel said in a statement on Thursday June 22 that they believe the five men had “sadly been lost” after they went missing on Sunday.

On Sunday June 18, a submersible vessel – or a mini submarine – carrying 5 people left Newfoundland in Greenland for an 8-day trip to the Titanic wreckage site.

The trip cost US$250,000 per person.

And the passengers included a British billionaire, a member of Pakistan’s richest families and his teenage son, a French maritime expert and the founder and CEO of the company leading the expedition.

The dive was supposed to only take two and a half hours, but the submersible lost contact 1 hour and 45 minutes after departure.

The vessel contained only approximately 4 days worth of emergency oxygen.

On Thursday, The US coast guard reported finding debris pertaining to the submarine, which seem “consistent with a catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber”.

The day before search officials had reported hearing "banging noises" at 30 minute intervals, but it seemed it was not related to the missing submarine.

Search officials hope the announcement brings some solace to the families and they will continue to investigate what really happened.
