Ribbed armour is interesting cause it doesn't work in the way you expect, it acts more like as you said, spaced armour.

Strv-103 is a true masterpiece of swedish engineering

My second youngest uncle used to be a commander in the Strv 103 he said that it was a incredibly good tank for its time

The armour ribs were put in place to stop fragment and spall from hitting optics and sensitive equipment outside the tank, like a person poking their head out. They had minimal affect on projectiles, ap or heat. The reason why warthunder models them this way is because the game is unrealistic and thinks that the extra 40mm sticking out makes the plate 40mm thicker as a whole if you hit them.

Shoot me as much as you want, my armor is to smooth, the smoothest there is, your shells simply slide off.

So…the STRV gets spaced armor from its grill…but the T-26E1’s ACTUAL SPACED ARMOR acts like a single plate that’s only 90 mm thick?

Gaijin…why? Just…why?

Another neat thing about the prototype model is that it has the same cupola as the PBV-301... including the mounting point for the 20mm autocannon. I doubt one was ever mounted, but the potential was there, which is cool.

I used to like the prototype more since the flat high angled armor got more shells to bounce.

Especially HEAT-FS that often get detonated on those strips and disable your engine/transmission —> you dead 6/10 times.

But maybe it’s better against the new tungsten core nerf in sky guardian.

Those things can do a lot of things like stopping shrapnel from bouncing upwards and providing some grip for the crew so they don't slip off. I mean it when I say this, Swedish military engineering is in a completely different world.

Хоча ці "штуки" були встановлені на STRV задля того аби уламки снарядів застрягали в них не пошкоджуючи прибори спостереження та оптику..
Although these "things" were installed on the STRV so that projectile fragments could get stuck in them without damaging the observation devices and optics.

That shit bounces off shots like crazy. The fucking thing is a bane of my existence.

Nothing scares me more than the cheese wedge in war thunder, that and the rocket cars

Back at it again with the Dangerous Door Wedge.

It doesn't work in war thunder at all, if it's not russian, they make it not work, if it's russian, they make it work way too well.

i could be wrong but from what i remember it was used so that small arms bullets wont ricochet up to the scopes

Whatever is directly in the shell's path would still chicken out, though

Looks like Gaijin has nerf this swedish TD frontal armor.

Ah, common practice, look at bmp1 upf, same thing.
A small trick to enhance protection without using a much heavier plate.
