On February 24, 1954, the M-72 emerged from the gates of the Gorky Automobile Plant, which became the world's first four-wheel drive passenger car with a frameless monocoque body. The car was the embodiment of the concept of comfortable SUVs - for the first time in the world! Many technical solutions first applied in the M72 are reflected in other models of domestic and foreign cars.
In the summer of 1956, three journalists: V. Urin, I. Tikhomirov, A. Lomakin made the Moscow-Vladivostok motor rally on the GAZ-M72, which started on May 1, 1956 from the Lenin Hills, from the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, 15 thousand kilometers long.
They went all the way along various roads, showing the reliability of the car's design.
24 февраля 1954 года из ворот Горьковского автозавода вышел М-72, ставший первой в мире полноприводной легковой машиной с безрамным несущим кузовом. Автомобиль являл собой воплощение концепции комфортабельных внедорожников — впервые в Мире! Многие технические решения, впервые примененные в М72 нашли отражение и на других моделях отечественных и зарубежных автомобилей.
Летом 1956 года трое журналистов: В.Урин, И. Тихомиров, А.Ломакин совершили на ГАЗ-М72 автопробег Москва-Владивосток, стартовавший 1 мая 1956 года с Ленинских гор, от Московского Государственного университета имени М.В. Ломоносова, протяженностью 15 тысяч километров. Они прошли весь путь по различным дорогам, показав надежность конструкции автомобиля.
