(To avoid debate, these are videos recorded with a Panasonic GH2 of a 4K TV in a dimly lit room. Quality should not be derived from this, shown only to demonstrate capability of the new SHIELD.)

NVIDIA just launched the new SHIELD set-top box powered by the Tegra X1 processor. This video shows that an Android-native version of Doom 3 was played to demonstrate the power of the system.

THe game might be 10 years old but it still looks better than any other android games

Also, the game is running at 1080p with 60fps.

There is also another video that shows shield console running crysis 3 natively (not streaming)

is this the 5  years in the making thing nvidia was touting these past days?
256 cuda cores?
this is as fast as a gtx 650 from 2 years ago. in shield size and low power consumption, its quite impresive

So this thing costs $200 and performs in between PS3/360 and PS4/XBONE? Not bad.

people need to understand that ARM cores are more efficient to code and performs as Intel i7 with less hertz..due to architecture 16 instructions per clock cycle on 8 core arm and wide BUS is twice as big than i7 bus...

Isn't Android a heavily modified version of Linux? IF so, shouldn't Games Made for Linux function? (Of course with some porting and a little recoding.)

But if the new shield is supposed to be so good, why don't they run a custom distro like Alienware Alpha or Steambox type software?

Doom 3 nowadays isn't impressive though, any mid-range can easily do ultra
