I been shooting my Nikon 85 mm f/1.4 for basketball from the baseline corners for years - little to tight from under the basket although I shoot my 50 mm f/1.4 there. Also lowers the ISO 2 stops from my 24-70 mm f/2.8 as well as blurring the background to the point you almost can't tell whats behind the players.

I keep a 35mm f1.4 in my bag for pre and post game portraits/grab shots.

Thanks for the informative review! Great to hear about this from a sports angle. How does the AF on moving subjects compare to the ef 85 f/1.4 IS, at f/1.4 on a similar (or considering a similar) body (e.g. 5d iv)? (My RF85 is in the mail.)

I love my EF 85 mm 1.4 lens! By far my favorite lens to use of all my lenses. It has image stabilization. It focuses much faster than the much more expensive 85 1.2. It's very easy to get extremely sharp photos shot to shot. With the 1.2, I had so many misses especially if the person wasn't still. Plus, the 1.2 didn't have image stabilization. Once I fill out my lineup of lenses (that upcoming RF 70-200 looks amazing), I might pick up the RF 85 mm, but for now, if a person is on a "budget", get the EF 85 1.4.
